NFL  > General NFL  > Green Bay Packers - Greatest Packer team ever?

The Packers are 11 and 0, 17 and 0 going back to last year, does this make the current Packer team the best in team history?

It's hard to compare them to Lombardi's Packers, because of the fact the game is played differently now than it was back then.

Ask yourself.............Could this team play in the "Ice Bowl"? There's no right answer to this because of the aforementioned reason. But, this Packer team is better than last years for sure................!

Sorry, but in my opinion the Packer teams of the 60's were the best with five NFL Championships. If this Packer team can duplicate that feat I might agree with you. They certainly are the class of the NFL this season.

Things were different then, teams stayed 'together'. no free agency. I think if the Packers win 3 SB's with this group then they are equal to or better than the Packers of the 60's.

This Packers team is successful primarily because of the stellar play of Aaron Rodgers. The Lombardi era Packers were a ball control offensive team and had a great defense too. They also sent nine players to the NFL hall-of-fame. It's much to early to anoint this team the best in Packers history.

I don't know much about the Packers from the 60's but from what I have read they were considered one of the best teams over a 7 year period than any others, but none of those teams won 17 straight games. This is quite an achievement. I think that in itself makes the current team better than those from the past.

If the Packers win the Super Bowl again this season and Rodgers is voted MVP, he will have duplicated Bart Starr's achievements with winning 2 SB's and 2 MVP's.

Did you combine the seasons like you are doing for this year's team?

The problem with reading is that you won't get the true sense of GBs domination back then. They were strong on both sides of the ball for many years, and in many cases feared.

NFL Films is a really good way to learn about your team beyond the years you are familiar with.

I am going by what Packer.com has said about the winning streak, that this is the longest streak in team history, so I am assuming the 60's teams never won 17 in a row in either 1 season or adjoining seasons.

You're right about NFL films, I just looked at some videos concerning the Ice Bowl bull shirt mentioned and it was very informative.

Those have to be the worst conditions any team has ever played in. Looks like the Cowboys controlled most of that game and it also looks like the blocker in front of Starr moved before the snap, false start?

Sgt Friday made a good post that was on topic. I wouldn't consider that troll like behavior.

You're new here so I'll cut you some slack but Friday does exhibit troll like behavior from time to time.
