Lets put one thing to rest really quick. Mike Singletary was the head coach, during that time yes he contributed something, was that something a positive something? Mike Singletary should have never been hired as the Head Coach, he had a drill sergeants mentality sprinkled with a little motivational speaker, but he knew nothing about the game as a whole only that from a linebacker perspective and had little respect for the position of QB. His hiring was a spur of the moment decision from a immature owner. Forty niner fans can all be happy that Jeds uncle Eddie slapped him upside his head and said: suck up your bad mistake and move on, which he did, he listened, and to that Jed York I will tip my hat to you. Although I would have liked it better if the 49ers had decided to build at Hunters Point in S.F., I am glad they will keep their team name- The San Francisco 49ers - even though your new stadium to be completed in 2015 will be in Santa Clara.
One of the other positives I forgot to mention was that David Akers broke the record for most field goals in a season by a 49er kicker. It's nice knowing that we have a very dependable kicker in David Akers, I just wish half those field goals had been TD's.
One of the negative aspects of this game that has been a glaring problem all season for Alex Smith and the 49er offense is their hesitance or confusion in the huddle that leads to them having to call time outs or get delay of game penalties called against them. You have the vehicle that will get you to the playoffs now in the next 4 weeks you need to tune the engine from a clunker into a well oiled machine, now is the time to turn up the throttle of the offense and see how fast it will go and how far it will take you.
San Francisco needs to win all their divisional games in order to get the 1st round bye. All their remaining divisional games are on the road. Arizona played the 49ers tough @ S.F. and Seattle has shown that they can beat playoff contending teams.
@- Arizona
Pittsburgh- Monday Night
@- Seattle
@- St.Louis
The 49ers need to win 3 or 4 remaining games in order to clinch a first round bye. Unless New Orleans ends up losing one of their remaining games.

Tough end to the schedule - especially with AZ and Seattle playing the way they are.

If they win their next 3 games convincingly then I'll know the 49ers are ready and will do well in the playoffs. One game at a time.

Agreed. Hope Willis isn't out for more than a week. You'll need him against Pittsburgh for sure.

The Niners are for real. Mike Singletary built a great defense and Jim Harbaugh is the benefactor. He should mail Singletary a thank you card.

Narrator, beware of this stat. You nail it in the last sentence.
Like I tell my son, "you don't win games kicking field goals..... you kick a field goal to WIN the game"....subtle difference.
Harbaugh is doing a nice job out there. Good luck in the playoffs

What no love for Mike Nolan- Nolan did more to build the defense and team than Singletary, there are still 18 players drafted by Nolan still on the team. Singletary was never the defensive coordinator of the 49ers. He went from linebacker coach/assistant Head Coach to Head Coach on Oct 20 2008 when the 49ers fired Nolan. Singletary only had 2 drafts 2009 and 2010. Only 2 players from the 2009 draft still are on the team- Michael Crabtree and Ricky Jean-Francois. It is also interesting to note that Singletary was against drafting Patrick Willis when he was in charge of the linebackers, GM Scott McCloughan drafted him against Singletary's wishes. Singletary's first draft 2009 had already been drawn up by Scott McCloughan before he left a few months prior to the draft (Trent Baalke took over as the substitute GM), the only thing that was a surprise that year was Crabtree falling to the number 11 spot so they took him as their first pick. Singletary and Baalke did have a good 2010 draft but that was Trent Baalkes doing not Singletary's. Many of the free agents brought to SF under Singletary are gone, here is a list of some of the better know players that are gone- Nate Clements, Aubrayo Franklin, Manny Lawson, Takaeo Spikes, Taylor Mays. This defense is successful because of Vic Fangio,
Two players the 49ers need to consider signing for contract extensions are Dashon Goldson and Carlos Rodgers.

I could understand the conservative play calling from the beginning all the way through to the half way point of the season, it was a way to allow Smith to feel comfortable in the system and prevent turnovers- so the fans wouldn't turn on Smith. Lately at every press conference Smith always mentions the teams need to improve in the Red Zone, so it is something everyone is aware of.
I got an e-mail from my brother in law who lives and breathes 49ers. He took his son to the game. You might see him on TV on MNF Pitt @ SF, he'll be the one painted in 49er colors running naked on the field.
What a beautiful day weather-wise for football, better yet what a fantastic football game. Few penalties and what a finale. The 49ers discovered the how to score TD's. I tell the world that after the 49ers scored their second TD on a pass to Crabtree I said to my friends i'd be happier if the 49ers were up 35-0 going into the 4th quarter, and when Brees threw 2 quick TD's to make it 17-14 at halftime I was muttering "Will SF be able to get 4 more TD's in the second half so they can keep Brees in check". Who's next?
gee... an all narry thread.... this is the most you have said about your team all year Narry.... you are such a dipchit!
