Not very smart Sam / - CHICAGO ??? Bears wide receiver Sam Hurd was in federal custody Thursday after authorities accused him of trying to set up a drug distribution network in the Chicago area and arrested him after he allegedly agreed to buy a kilogram of cocaine from an undercover agent.

According to the federal complaint, Hurd was arrested Wednesday night after meeting with the agent at a Chicago restaurant. The complaint contends Hurd told the agent that he was interested in buying five to 10 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana per week to distribute.

Hurd told the agent "his co-conspirator is in charge of doing the majority of the deals" while he focused on "higher-end deals," the complaint said. He allegedly said he could pay for the kilogram of cocaine after "he gets out of practice," then walked out of the restaurant with the package and was arrested.

Wow. Busted.

Article I read indicated his source was from N. Texas (read Dallas area) and that Hurd was originally from Illinois. Looks like Sam got pulled into being the link between the two geographic locations and fronting the heavy money. Betting he's having some second thoughts about his new orange jump-suit.

I was NOT in Chicago recently.

Read they got onto him when his car was picked up/pulled over with some other guy driving it. Was a duffle in there with $88,000. Well Sam wants that money so he goes to the cops and tries to get it back (STUPID) and I suspect his "story" was like Swiss cheese so they are thinking even a football player is not this stupid (debatable) so they start a file on Mr. Sam (I have duffels with $88K in my car) Hurd. Just like an old episode of "The Wire".
