What do you guys think of this matchup?

Minowa has spent the majority of his career in Japan, famously fighting (nd mostly beating) mostly super heavyweights like Bob Sapp and Butterbean. He has also fought against the cream of the crop in the 205 pound class, facing competition the likes of Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva, and Kazushi Sakuraba.

In 2009 he won the wild "Super Hulk Grand Prix", defeating Bob Sapp, Hong-Man Choi and Rameau Thierry Sokodjou to capture the open-weight tournament crown. He is a veteran of 91 fights, and according to the Sherdog database, he holds the most leg-lock victories of any fighter with 17.

Grove made himself a hit and miss career in the UFC after capturing the crown of "The Ultimate Fighter" champion at 185 in the shows third season. Mixed in with losses to the likes of Demian Maia, Mark Munoz, and Ricardo Almeida were wins over Alan "The Talent" Belcher, Evan Tanner, Jake Rosholt and Goran Reljic.

Anyone else excited about this fight? The UFC has reportedly been interested in Minowa, and a win over Kendall Grove might put him into the biggest stage in MMA today, especially with their renewed interest in promoting fights in Japan.

Minowa by flying butterbean drop kick.

Nice.

I'm just curious to see how Minowa does against this level of competition. We've seen him lose to guys like prime Wanderlei and Cro Cop, and we've seen him beat Bob Sapp and Baru Harn. What will he do against a mid-tier UFC fighter?

QUOTE(#3):

I think he'll beat Grove convincingly. Grove is mediocre at best at this point. Is this fight Jan 21st? I wonder is that's on HDnet.

Yeah, the 21st of January. Should be on HDNet, I think the other ProElite cards have been.

Never heard of this guy.

Well, now is the time to get educated

Ikuhisa "The Punk" Minowa is a legend to the Japanese for his toughness, willingness to fight anyone in the world as much as he is fir his formidable grappling skills.

He also has a flair for the dramatic, frequently throwing attacks like drop kicks.

Look up his fights with Butterbean and Don Frye to learn a little more about him.
