How about a DE that can apply almost as much pressure as Peppers?
Those kinds of guys rarely hit free agency.
I think J.A. will retire there has been a few articles written about the possibility of it and Imagine this late slide may be the push for him to go ahead with it. I also think that Ruskell will take J.A.'s job especially considering he is in house and based on the Tampa connection. Phillips needs someone else to take the heat away from himself and the McCaskeys.
There has also been articles eluding to Martz possibility leaving for greener pastures as he didn't take the offer extension the Bears made him, the Bears offered him the same pay he has now and he wanted a raise like they gave Tice. Which leads me to believe that Martz may leave and Tice promoted to O-Coordinator whic would lead an opening for an offensive line coach at best or Tice in a dual role saving some coin which is what Phillips and the McCaskeys are all about.
The Bears are always out couched IMO Lovie firmly believes in his game plans and usually lays blame on execution. I think it was BG who said Lovie plays Checkers while other coaches plays Chess and I agree with that assessment.
I also agree with BG mentioning the Bears should see what they have in the Rookie Enderle as I think it's safe to say Hanie will not be back especially after his performances the last month.
I think there is improvement to be made on the O-Line yet but it's not as bad as they where early on and they are seeing exactly what they have as far as depth is concerned.
What a frustrating end to the season but injuries are unfortunately a part of the NFL and teams/coaches have to be able to overcome them and game plan around the deficiencies albeit losing your starting Q.B. is a rough one to deal with.
Can't even start thinking about next season yet to many ???'s yet to be answered.
Honestly I think this team is the best one we have had going into the off season in a long time. Maybe the best since the Payton era. Injuries and Coaching ruined this season. If either one had been better (coaching)or less (injuries) , we would have made the playoffs.
I hope you are right about Tice assending to OC. I also feel that if is promoted this being outcoached CRAP will end. The defense isn't outcoached, it's the offense that is, ie Martz. You know the guy who doesn't allow audibles or is so set in his ways that no one can do a better job than him. Anyone who is a Lovie/Martz fan is hiding his affection as of yesterdays game against the Seahawks where the Bears went from a 14-7 lead in the first 1/2, to 38-14 slaughter with 31 unanswered points says someone isn't doing their job!!! Speaking of not doing their job please explain to me how you can keep a man on your team for (4) FOUR seasons and he plays so poorly as Hanie has done. And I for one am NOT blaming just the player/s this time!!! That excuse isn't going to cut it with me anymore!!! I don't see Lovie losing his job over it, but I see a mutual agreement that the Bears and Martz would be better off parting. If we got rid of Martz and started with Tice maybe we would start off strong and not have to simplify our offense after the first 5 to 8 games this next year too!
I don't think we will be able to get a DE to help Peppers in Free Agency, but the draft is a possibility especially if we are drafting in the top 14 or so. I'm just wanting mostly three positions improved in this draft/off season. Wr, DE, and Corner Back and maybe Oline depth. I think/hope we will keep Briggs even with all his crying. I mean really where else could he go and play the 4/3defense with the teammates who would help him shine better than here? If he is put in a 3/4 defense he wouldn't even make the pro bowl. He would just disappear on the field. And I think Matt Forte will either be franchised or sign a new contract. GO BEARS!!!

IMO the Bears are already very close...they need just a few things.
1. A #1 WR
Most QB's throw right into coverage, because the WR knows were the ball should be the DB does not...but todays DB's are such great athletes, that they are able to still be in the play...A QB who has confident in his WR's will throw the ball and give the receiver a chance to make a play on the ball...the QB's only requirement is that if you can not catch the ball, you make SURE that the defense does not catch the ball...No Bears receiver does that...A # 1 WR is a must.
2. One dominate offensive lineman
This line has improved, but that inprovment was that Martz finally did not send out 5 receivers, one or two stayed in to block, and Cutler ate the league up. One Dominat lineman should bring the confidence of them all.
3. Two Cornerbacks and move Tillman to Safety
Two cornerbacks who can play man to man defense all over the field...IF you were to get two
cornerbacks, what do you do with Tillman...move him to strong safety...He is big, strong and can cover, and tackles good. It is every teams dream to have a great tackling Safety who can cover.
For the first time in his life, Lovie Smith's predominate defense was not a cover two shell.
It was a cover one, and this defense dominated games...they played Cover one against Denver for 56 minutes and dominated the game, and then went to the Cover Two shell and lost.
Making these moves will put this team in a position to win NOW

I have attended many Bears games this season and think they need to go in a new direction. The offense is weak and our defense is getting old. A new GM is needed to bring in young talented players. The bears should cut ties with many of their older veterans and obtain as many draft picks as possible. Orlacher is showing his age but may be worth a couple high picks. This team is stale and needs new blood to compete with the Packers & Lions.

Nice ideas BG but Angelo is clueless as a GM and would just continue to screw things up.
The real worrisome thing about a back injury is that he may recover now, but in ten or twenty years when there is no insurance it rears it's ugly head again and cripples the person. I speak from experience. I have multiple surgeries myself with only medicare as my insurance and my old insurer and employer off the hook even though the origional injury happened on their watch. GO BEARS!!!

As far as this season goes, we had a good ride for as long as it lasted. We were one of the best teams in the NFL for 7 weeks. Something alot of NFL teams couldn't say this year at all. And we all except one will say "WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR!!! However we will be back alot faster than most! GO BEARS!!!

Better than nothing Sgt. lol Which some teams didn't have even 7 good games in a row this year. And I beg to disagree that we have alot to be proud of and to look foreward to next year.
As if things couldn't get worse!!!, Gabe Carimi needs another knee surgery AND Chris Conte is out for the season. No idea on if he will need surgery or not yet. Of all the aquisitions the Bears had during the off season I'm most pleased with the play of these two men. Hopefully they will be able to come back at full strength and play the way they did this year or better next year. In some ways I like the job Conte did in filling the FS job that the Bears have had a hole at since the cutting of Mike Brown in what seems an eon ago. GO BEARS!!!

I agree that we need a dominant Wr or TWO!!!
But I think we have two dominanting linemen now in Graza who the announcer in this weeks game against the SeaHawks said he was one of the only centers in the NFL who could be counted on to block a DT by himself. The other is Chris Spencer if he is playing GUARD. He has had more devistating blowout blocks than anyone on the O line this year. I also feel that Chris Williams is close to being better than average if not in the top 10% of the guards. Tackle wise I think Carimi is a beast and will prove it next year. Lastly Webb at LT has learned alot and in another year or two should do well. I really think that this OLine is close to being one of the best in the NFL and in a year or two will prove it. Add in their backups and we have fantastic potential for the OL. Go BEARS!!!

I don't agree with you about moving Tillman to Free Safety however BGDUECE. First we just got Conte who I think is going to prove himself to be a probowl player in about two or three years. (The sky's the limit for Major Wright too.) He had a superb rookie season and will improve every year. I think we should leave Tillman at CB and find another corner. All teams pick on Jennings. So we really need to improve there.Taking an aging player and increasing the pounding of making so many more tackles to me isn't the best thing to do as I see it.
The place on Defense I think we need help at the most is Left Defensive End. If we got a better pass rush our opponents wouldn't have time to pick on Jennings either. We need someone good enough to take advantage of being left one on one against the opponents Right Tackle. If we can get a LDE, we would open up Peppers, Okoye, and Paea who I think should complete the rest of the D line. LDE is to me the biggest offseason priority. (2nd WR, and 3rd CB) As far as age only 4 key players (Urlacher, Briggs, Tillman and Peppers) are geting older, but I think we can get at least 2 years out of all of them. I haven't seen their playing abilities decreasing yet, so I think we have time to spare with them. GO BEARS!!!

I think it's time to trade some older veterans and get new blood on this team. This team is starting to show its age and some fresh young talent would help. Lovie should be given his walking papers and a coach with a strong offensive background should be hired. I'd like to see this team evolve into an exciting offensive force like the Saints or the Packers but of course we'd need an upgrade at QB to make that possible.

Maybe not, but the Bears were doing well until Cutler & Forte got injured. This team lacks quality depth and needs major changes in the off season.

They need a new philosophy...The Lovie Smith prevent defense, lost the Denver game.
The Mike Martz, send out five receivers every play did not help in the first five games.
Yeah they need depth...but Angelo does not how to draft...hence, No starting 1st round draft picks are currently on 53 man roster, with the exception of Brian Urlacher.
Their is one position that you can OVERPAY for...A Backup QB...ask Angelo that now.

When Cutler got injured the Bears should have signed Brett Favre for the rest of the season. Hanie was just terrible!
