MLB  > New York Yankees  > "Core Four (Plus One)" in the HOF?
January 8, 2012, 09:33 AM
It's been reported that Jorge Posada will likely announce his retirement soon, after 17 seasons with the Yankees.

Pretty remarkable in this day that the "Core Four" (Posada, Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, and Derek Jeter) played on the same team for so many seasons. Add Bernie Williams for much of those years, and you have a remarkable run of teammates, rivaling any in baseball history.

So, how many of the "Core Four Plus One" will make it to Cooperstown? If I may:

Derek Jeter: In. first ballot.

Mariano Rivera: In. first ballot.

Bernie Williams: In, either near the end of his eligibility by writers' vote or by the Veterans Committee.

Andy Pettitte - A "maybe" without his HGH admission. It's a tough call ??? are there different degrees of P.E.D. use that should be considered? Is any type of use forgivable?

Jorge Posada - Not in. A great player, and will stay on the ballot a while, likely the full 15 years.
