St Louis Die Hards  > Group Message Board  > A few weeks away

Just a few weeks away from Pitchers and Catchers reporting. I thought I'd throw this out there. What, if any, are small moves you feel the Birds should make before the start of the season? The lineup is pretty much set, but there is always room for another arm in the bullpen, or rotation (via trade), or a bat off the bench. An interesting name out there that intrigues me a bit is Roy Oswalt. I also think a guy like Aaron Miles could be a guy off the bench. I was always a fan of Miles. Just wanted to get thoughts from the group.

I know....I'm getting antsy for Spring Training to start.

I think the roster is pretty set, but what I wouldn't mind seeing added is a bat off the bench that can hit for power. Maybe a veteran OF-1B type that could come off the bench and give us some pop late in a game. Right now, I think the bench is a little short on power, unless someonen like Mark Hamilton makes the roster.

I see that Walt Jocketty signed Ryan Ludwick to a contract this week. This continues his practice of signing former Cardinals to come to Cincinnati. Rolen, Edmonds, and now Ludwick.

Although I can't pull for him too much given that he is a Red, I wish Ludwick well. Solid professional and he was a great Cardinal.

Sounds like the Oswalt rumor is starting to take on some steam. I think he would be an upgrade over Westbrook in the rotation. I agree with an OF-1B type veteran who could add some pop in the lineup late in the game, and even give Berkman/Beltran a day off here and there. I like the roster as a whole right now, but there is always some minor tinkering that can be done.

As for Ludwick...I've always been a fan, and I think the trade of him is really starting to bite the birds in the butt. Westbrook hasn't panned out, and Ludwick continues to be a solid player both defensively, and offensively. I wish him well, and hope that he doesn't turn into a thug like most of the Reds players are. He was, and still is a class act, and wish him well. If he's the only Reds player to produce this year, I'll be fine with that.

I agree with you about Ludwick, but I still think Westbrook can be solid. I look for him to have a strong year this year.
