NFL  > General NFL  > Could Sunday at the 'Stick' be the very last mud game?

Hearing it is starting to rain now and will continue until Tuesday.

It really is just like the old days with the 49ers they still play on grass (hopefully they did not change that) and can actually have mud, how long has it been fans?

This could be the last time we ever see a mud game playoffs or otherwise.

Memory serves me correctly the only venue's that are left with grass are SF, Oak., Jacksonville & Miami.

Most of the better franchises have switched to Miracle Turf.

There are a decent amount of grass fields left, but they are so hybrid they don't use enough dirt to make mud. I am too young to really remember mud games, but I love the highlights and wish they still played like that. Just another reason the NFL has turned into a wimpy league.

SF and Oakland are also 2 of the oldest stadiums. I wonder if in SF's new stadium they are planning on using grass or plastic. They say it is supposed to be an environmentally friendly stadium, so with that being said I'm guessing they are going grass. In the past many of the fields were just poorly constructed and had terrible drainage. I thought Arizona's field was grass, and that in order for it to get sunlight they roll it outside on massive train tracks.

Insecticides used on grass fields isn't enviromentally friendly in my opinion.

Me too. It sure would be fun to watch.

The Niners are wearing their red and gold unies this weekend. Mud shows up on white so much better.

First of all they don't use insecticides, no swarms of locusts lately, besides I have never even heard of anyone using insecticides on there lawns in this area, they don't even have problems with gophers. About the only thing I could imagine that would affect the grass growth would be a flock of geese landing and munching on the grass.

I always prefered the outdoor games, in the elements. Snow, cold, rain, mud.... Real turf! Not enough of that action left!
