NFL  > San Francisco 49ers  > SO WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
January 23, 2012, 02:38 AM
SAN FRANCISCO 49ers- Next stop Pro Bowl. Not only will several of the 49ers be going to the PRO BOWL but so will the coaching staff of the 49ers. At least they are going to Hawaii, it is also a better place to drown your sorrows. Both Jim and John Harbaugh will be coaching the NFC and AFC, thus they will be able to console each other. It will also be a good time to talk to some of the Pro Bowl WR's that are free agents.

49er draft needs: Center- The OL is relatively young, Goodwin going into his 11th season may have 2-3 good years at center, they need a true Center. Guard- RG- I don't know if Chilo Rachal is going to work out, so that leaves us with Snyder who will be entering his 7th season. WR- The 49ers are small and not all that fast at WR, I don't know if Alex Smith likes throwing to the WR's, maybe they are to small and he can't spot them, the tallest WR is Michael Crabtree at 6'1"and although he has good hands he has a hard time getting open, they really need to improve their WR corps. TE- Yes the 49ers need a TE, Vernon Davis is more suited to be a WR in todays NFL, Justin Peele won't be on the 49ers next year he's to old, Delanie Walker is also to small, he is only 6'0", I know he is a crowd favorite but he is replaceable. The 49ers need a TE that is at least 6'5". FB- Norris will be gone next year so they need a backup to Bruce Miller, maybe they can convert Anthony Dixon to FB and then draft another RB. QB- I know it would be sacrilegious to even think about getting rid of Alex Smith at this point. The players love him and he had the best "feel good" season of any player in the NFL this year, but, if Peyton Manning is healthy and a free agent the 49ers need to think about taking him over Smith.

Besides next years regular NFC West teams on their schedule the 49ers will play - Home games- Chicago,Detroit, NE, NYJ's, and @GB, @Minn, @Buff, @Mia, the other 2 NFC teams they will play are the NYG's and NO ( It has yet to be determined which of those teams the 49ers will host) . All in all they will play 5 teams that made the playoffs from the 2011 season and will play the 4 teams that have won 4 Super Bowls in the last 5 years, and will play both teams that made the Super Bowl in 2012. All in all it looks to be a more favorable schedule than 2011. I wonder if this year they will have Detroit playing @ San Francisco on Thanksgiving?

I don't know what is worse, listening to you or Joe Buck, both of you just love to hear yourselves talk incessantly about nothing. it was very difficult but for most of the game I watched the 49er game with the MUTE on, the only time I switched to audio was when I wanted to hear the poor explanation from the refs about their calls or missed calls . FOX did their usual substandard broadcast, what else do you expect from the Buck/Aikman duo. Apparently FOX didn't have enough people to man all the cameras and kept showing some stupid fixed camera whose lens was covered in water and some idiotic director who kept switching to that camera, I guess it was for dramatic effect to present to the public that some torrential downpour was occurring throughout the game, which was not the case at all, but the media had declared this to be a mud bowl, so they had to present it as thus. On Mannings first incompletion Buck spouted up; The Ball slipped out of Mannings hands.

are you whining Narry?

January 23, 2012  10:53 AM ET

What are the odds? First of all when we are talking about odds I heard on the radio that some guy had gone to Vegas and placed $2,000,000.00 on the 49ers while they were getting 3 1/2 points. Well if it's true we know of one guy who is happy today.

The other odds. Head coaches who are brothers that have identical records that give them the #2 seed in their respective conferences. They both lose in the conference finals by 3 points. John Harbaughs team is eliminated when Billy Cundiff misses an easy 23 yard field goal that would have sent the game into overtime. Jim Harbaughs team loses after they drive down the field and David Akers kicks a field goal with 5 and a half minutes left in the game to tie the game from the same mark that Cundiff misses from. Both teams were in the red zone and a TD would have changed the outcome most likely.

No, if I where whining I'd be complaining about the poor officiating of Ed Hockulee, his son is a college ref who looks like a clone of his old man and even a worse ref than his father. Both are terrible in my opinion. The one call of unsportsmanlike conduct against Vernon Davis were he jumped into the mix of 2 players fighting, it looked more like he was trying to break up a fight that, the refs hadn't separated, a fight which was instigated by a NYG when he yanked the helmut of Anthony Davis, they should have just called offsetting penalties. The fumble that was blown dead in the 4th quarter, thank you refs for again determining the outcome of a game with an early whistle, maybe in the future a players forward progress will be determined by the moment of impact lets make this into " touch football" , not before his knee or elbow touches the ground. But I said once before that in every game there are poor officiating calls- so be it.

What am I assuming, numbnuts? Yeah, you said talk. Are you suggesting that what you meant is that they compare notes on French cooking? Jesus, Narry, you are a pissy little toolbag. I assumed nothing. I was actually asking a question because I don't know what the rules are, and you go and get your gutchies in a knot.

I think you're on to something, Aerator. It's a conspiracy against the Harbaughs.

January 23, 2012  11:34 AM ET

Those games played out just as I anticipated, except for the shank by Cundiff.
Balt D held the Pats offense in check, and stayed in the game as long as they could.
Giants-49ers was physical, with Eli and his group edging out the 49ers.
I had no dog in the fight, but was entertained nonetheless.

Change Cut Crabtree sign Colston and Wes Welker keep Smith and Defense help in draft.

No I'm just pointing out the similarities in both of their seasons. I also think it is about time that the NFL takes the next step in refereeing their games. I thought that the challenge would alleviate controversy, yet it has become slower than my internet provider, most viewers know how the call should go before the ref enters the booth, great for advertisers, bad for the viewers and the poor people in the stands that have to endure this time consuming process.

And what would that next step be?
