MMA  > General MMA  > UFC 144 Pick Em's
February 24, 2012, 01:15 AM
You guys know whats up.

3 points for each correctly picked winner, and an additional 1 point apiece for correct method (TKO, Submission, Decision) and round. The main event is worth double.

And new for this pick em: Since sherdog.com has a new fantasy pick em game, I made a fannation pool. It is a private pool, pool name is Fannation and the password is fannation . I hope a few guys get in on it.

Pick em's here will continue as normal, but the sherdog thing is just a fun little addition.

Now, the card:

Not really. All I meant is that I believe Henderson possesses the tools to beat Edgar. It's gonna be a heckuva fight regardless who wins.

I really thought rampage would be super fired up to go back to Japan and I had him finishing Bader, and then he comes in grossly over weight?? WTH? I would be dissapointed if Bader doesn't win now. Japanese fans need to see the joke that used to be Rampage Jackson.

This has been coming for a long time though.

Rampage has the same kind of swell up before camp, then try to make a drastic cut mentality that has proven disastrous in the past for guys like Rumble. He doesn't face the same consequences of course, as this is his first offense.

I am surprised by this news a little though, as I expected at least 1 guy to come in overweight. I expected it to be a foreigner, someone who is not used to the flight, jet lag, water retention, ext.

But Rampage fought in Japan for 8 years or so, I didn't expect this from him at this event.

Here's the thing though. Rampage said he had injuries during camp which prevented him from making weight. I'm not sure its that he's not motivated, it sounds like injuries were the major factor for the missed cut. I've never seen Ramapage miss weight before so I'm going to believe him in this situation. I think its a little much to pick Bader because of a missed weight cut. If he's healthy now and didn't kill himself to make 205 then I still pick him to handle Bader.

I also wonder if he didn't realize that he wasn't going to make it and took on some fluids.

He tweeted five hours before the weigh ins that he was only 6 pounds off. He may have been lying, but I bet he made it to about 208, realized he had no more to give and drank some pedialite.

That is what I don't get about people swapping their picks to Bader after Rampage misses weight.

If all goes according to plan for Quinton, he is just as depleted as he is now, only he is 6 pounds lighter. Any guy who rides that fine line of coming in just at weight after a big cut is just as depleted if they manage to make weight as they are if they miss by a few pounds.

I see your point about this not being a pattern for Rampage but after aggressively campaigning to fight on this card( with a hint of backstage drama), I just thought he would pull out all the stops and give us just one more glimpse of the monster who fought in Pride. Instead we get a soft looking, overweight Rampage that Bader can maybe handle. Since Rampage has been in the UFC, he's been a mental fighter. He thinks too much and if things aren't exactly in line, he loses faith and gives away fights. I didn't change my prediction in the fight, because I don't do that. I was just saying that I felt if he lost this one, it would be deserved.

Well I screwed that up lol. Hindsight is always 20/20 I guess. Happy to see Henderson get the belt. Now we all get to witness Showtime/Henderson II for the belt. At least I hope we do. Dana has to know that fight has $$$ written allllll over it.

I agree, that should be a great fight. I am actually now a little glad that we had that travesty of a "fight" between Guida and Pettis, which Pettis should have won, but the universe lets all good things rise to the top, while hopefully Guida will settle at the bottom.
