I would assume it's going to have to be 5 years or so, and make him among the top paid catchers. It's a tough comparison, I think, to other catchers. There are certainly some that are better hitters than him, but he has no peer defensively.
Yadi should probably try to get a contract done now and take advantage of the big offensive year he just had. If he drops off at the plate this year, he won't get as lucrative a deal.

While there are better regular season hitting catchers, I think Yadi's post season prowess has to be taken into consideration. I think a 5 yr contract worth between $55 and $65M would be market value when you add that to his defensive excellence.
Well, they are talking about 5 years/$70-75M, which would make him the 2nd highest paid catcher behind Mauer.
A deal is close

Glad to hear both sides are talking finally.

Agreed. Get this thing done so it's not an issue during the season. Yadi has a unique value with this pitching staff, they can't afford to let him walk.

Well, it's supposed to be a done deal - 5 years @ $75M

Good to hear. These are the kinds of deals that would have been difficult to get done if we were paying our first baseman $25M a year.

Agreed. We definitely didn't nedd another circus. I think that about covers everything from a business anglle so now let's get everyone to Opening Day healthy!
Yadi's had a great spring so far, and reportedly is in great shape and is becoming more of a team leader, especially with AP gone. That is very nice to hear that he showing his dedication after getting his big contact.

If only the Front Office gave the same consideration for El Hombre. It will be sad not to have him at 1st, but with a great Vet like Lance Berkman, I think we can do the unthinkable this year: Repeat. Will it be hard? Yes. That aside, I am glad that Yadi is staying in StL.
