NFL  > Chicago Bears  > Emery made his first big splash in Chicago
March 13, 2012, 04:30 PM
Phil Emery has made his first splash in free agency as the Bears GM trading two third round picks one 2012 and the second in 2013 for W.R. Brandon Marshall. Reuniting Cutler and Marshall in Chicago with Bates again, let's hope they can be as productive as they where in Denver. A true No. 1 W.R. has been needed in Chicago since Booker left via free agency and gives Cutler back one of his favorite W.R.'s in his NFL career.

So far so good for new GM Emery IMO and a good deal for BMarsh as Miami gave up two second rnd. picks for him a few short years ago.

Hmmm. I wonder why Miami would do that. They must be banking on getting a Manning/Wayne package deal or something.

Good move for the Bears though - now Bennett (?) might have a chance to shine if he's not the sole WR target.

That would be my guess LIHI but who knows for sure at this point. I'm happy at this point, I know Marshall has had his issues in the past and I hope this reunion turns out to be what I hope it will be, time will tell but he is certainly a better W.R. than the Bears have had since 2002.

Agreed, Bennett is a great possession W.R. and pared with Marshall his numbers should get better, I think Cutler now has two W.R's he trusts.

I think most of Marshall's issues were tied to his having that borderline personality disorder, weren't they? Seems like once he figured that out he's been a pretty good dude. Cutler is probably ecstatic right now!

Looks like it. Now shore up that line and away you go!

Defiantly need to shore up the o-line and add a pass rusher and corner back. Still have the rest of free agency and the draft to go but I'm excited about how it's started off so far.

I'll have to live through what other teams are doing during FA. Raiders are broke!

No picks either. Ha!

:( don't know what to say but sorry, I do know how you feel though as it was pretty boring when the Bears traded away all their picks for Cutler and then traded down to boot in the draft.

Yeah, I used to leave work early to get home in time for the start of the draft. No need to do that this year... no picks until the 5th round unless we get a 3rd and/or 4th round compensatory pick(s). But, it is what it is!

really not a busy day in F-A today [over-all] .

Still a nice break from the Manning tour......LOL

Are your Pats getting Brandon Lloyd? seems like the most likely landing spot for him reuniting him with McDaniels.

I think it's kind of slow because it took the league so long in setting the cap number so that teams knew what they were working with. Should pick up tomorrow I would think!

congrats and good-luck gsh,.......i hope brandon keeps taking his medication [bipolar ?],......don't let him on a plane with that stewardess who fell off her [medication].....lol.

I think LIHI was right now he's be diagnosed I haven't heard as much from him and I think Cutler and the rest of the Bear veterans hopefully can keep him inline. He's defiantly an upgrade talent wise and should give Cutler and the Bears offense a legit W.R. threat and allow Bennett and the other W.R.'s some breathing room.

Considering the Bears grabbed Bates I imagine a similar passing attack to what they ran in Denver and should really allow Forte to shine. Last few years Forte was pretty much the Bears offense and now with Marshall maybe they won't face as many 8 in the box looks from defenses and give Forte some running lanes.
