NFL  > Pittsburgh Steelers  > Mike Wallace Wants More $$ Than Larry Fitzgerald....
March 22, 2012, 02:20 PM
"Mike Wallace may be the best free agent left on the open market this spring, but for the money he???s seeking, he might not make for the best value. A source tells Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee that Wallace wants more than the eight-year, $120 million deal that Larry Fitzgerald signed last year with the Arizona Cardinals.

Wallace is certainly a blue-chip free agent ??? he made 72 catches last season for 1,193 yards and eight touchdowns, helping make the Steelers??? offense one of the most explosive in the NFL.

Barrows reports that the San Francisco 49ers have expressed interest in the wideout, but they???re daunted by the price tag. New England, Cincinnati and Baltimore are all unlikely to pay the high asking price as well, he writes.

Wallace, an Ole Miss alum, was the Steelers??? third-round pick in the 2009 NFL draft. He???s made 171 career catches for 3,206 yards; he was a Pro Bowler for the first time in 2011."

Yeah. Of course, he also said he was going to have 2000 yards last season, so Mike has a track record.

He definitely is an asset to the team, but to ask for so much so soon might end up limiting his options in the end.

and we all saw how THAT turned out...once the double coverage started...... Mike letting all the accolades that Ben and the Steelers have been giving him the past 2 years go to his head....he's gonna find himself in a rowboat with Plaxico, Santonio, and Yancy if he's not careful....while Antonio Brown and Co. win another SB, or two, or ?.... ;)

You as well! have the Raiders shopped for any FA's yet?

Only a few. Losing players left and right though!

Isn't he a restricted free agent?

He's got a tender offer I think. Can't remember if it was first or second round.

We lost 2 DefLinemen Fenene and Rucker and 2 WR's Caldwell's gone and Simpson's next.so far and 1 RB is gonna get the boot also.

We've lost so many it's ridiculous. 10 so far (4 FA's, 6 cuts) and still more on the block.

Yeah, losing Fenene, was the biggest loss,so far,and besides, these players just might be able too have the best games against the teams they left or got dropped from.

There's been a lot of FA movement within the AFC West, so there's definitely going to be a few match ups that I'll either look forward to or dread. And with the overall FA market this year, it's going to happen to a lot of teams!

But he hasn't come close to earning that kind of money, LIHI. It's hard for me to believe that anything Ward tried to teach him sunk in.

I don't know his stats, but I agree that you gotta earn the right to ask for that much money. And asking for it won't help his reputation, that's for sure.

I read 1st-round tender.

But either way... no one is going to want to give up a draft pick for the rights to overpay a player. He'll be a Steeler and possibly a malcontent in 2012.
