"Mike Wallace may be the best free agent left on the open market this spring, but for the money he???s seeking, he might not make for the best value. A source tells Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee that Wallace wants more than the eight-year, $120 million deal that Larry Fitzgerald signed last year with the Arizona Cardinals.

Wallace is certainly a blue-chip free agent ??? he made 72 catches last season for 1,193 yards and eight touchdowns, helping make the Steelers??? offense one of the most explosive in the NFL.

Barrows reports that the San Francisco 49ers have expressed interest in the wideout, but they???re daunted by the price tag. New England, Cincinnati and Baltimore are all unlikely to pay the high asking price as well, he writes.

Wallace, an Ole Miss alum, was the Steelers??? third-round pick in the 2009 NFL draft. He???s made 171 career catches for 3,206 yards; he was a Pro Bowler for the first time in 2011."

He definitely is an asset to the team, but to ask for so much so soon might end up limiting his options in the end.

and we all saw how THAT turned out...once the double coverage started...... Mike letting all the accolades that Ben and the Steelers have been giving him the past 2 years go to his head....he's gonna find himself in a rowboat with Plaxico, Santonio, and Yancy if he's not careful....while Antonio Brown and Co. win another SB, or two, or ?.... ;)

There's been a lot of FA movement within the AFC West, so there's definitely going to be a few match ups that I'll either look forward to or dread. And with the overall FA market this year, it's going to happen to a lot of teams!

I read 1st-round tender.

But either way... no one is going to want to give up a draft pick for the rights to overpay a player. He'll be a Steeler and possibly a malcontent in 2012.
