NFL  > Pittsburgh Steelers  > Haley; A TOMLIN-"Call"
March 28, 2012, 06:36 AM
"Mike Tomlin said the decision to change offensive coordinators was his - not a "directive" from Steelers president Art Rooney II - and expects new coordinator Todd Haley and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to get along "great."

Arians retired Jan. 20, but he resurfaced less than two weeks later in Indianapolis as the Colts' offensive coordinator. The unseemly transition from Arians to Haley fueled speculation that Tomlin had been ordered - or at least strongly encouraged - by Rooney to make a change after the Steelers finished tied for 21st in the NFL in scoring (20.3 points per game)."

I think it's unfair to put all the blame on Arians as Big Ben had an injury plaqued season.

C'mon.....really? Arians was an unimaginative, untalented hack that rode the coattails of Roethlisberger's unique ability to keep out of harm's way (at least for the first couple of seasons) long enough to make something out of nothing.....His play calling was so predictable that EVERY opponent felt like they had "Spygate" information. Let's see how great an OC he is at Indy... he will need alot of Luck (pun intended) if he expects to see anywhere near the success he had with the Steelers...............

I'm wasn't crazy about several of the people Tomlin initially hired on his staff - well, except for LeBeau of course.Bob Ligashesky as special teams coach was a disaster, Ken Anderson as QB coach ("developed" Akili Smith), Larry Zierlein as O-line coach also didn't work out.I just hope Haley is an upgrade.

ANYBODY would be an upgrade to that coattail-riding hack Arians........I used to sit and call the offensive plays during Steelers games the past few years........Handoff, bubble screen, deep throw, punt......

"Steelers' players have gotten their first look at offensive coordinator Todd Haley's playbook and so far they have been picking it up with ease.

One player who is going to be called to execute it right away is Isaac Redman, who will be the Steelers starting running back when the season opens with Rashard Mendenhall still working his way back from an ACL injury.

"For me, being in the league a couple of years now, I am picking it up faster than the younger guys," said Redman. "It's not too difficult for us. Everybody is out here working together, helping each other out, discussing things so that when the season comes around we should be clicking on all cylinders."

Running back Baron Batch barely had a chance to learn Bruce Arians'offense last year before he was injured in training camp, missing the entire season. He likes the approach that Haley has brought to the offense, being a hands-on coach who is teaching as they go."

.....Much like Chan Gailey.

Hell.....you'd be hard-pressed to find any NFL-team that hasn't benefited from adding Steelers-seasoned coaching to their staff!!!

Yeah....he had a bit of a career, with Cincy....and, several other teams, but....

"LeBeau then went back to the Steelers in 2004."
