Well, that was a beautiful game for Opening Day. Lohse was much, much better than expected. He looked as good as I've seen him, and hopefully it is the start of a great year for him. With Carp out, it would be huge for him to step up with another good year.

Very nice to see Furcal get going with some hits early. After his horrible spring, he likely could use a confidence boost and a quick start would be just the ticket.

What else?

Freese picking up where he left off was nice to see with the two out hit in the first.

The Cards should have had a shutout, as that was a horrible call on what should have been an inning ending DP in the 8th. Infante was clearly out at first.

I thought Jon Jay looked great defensively in CF on a couple of those long drives the Marlins hit.

Overall, a great night. I'm mostly just glad that baseball is back!

You're right, it was a great opener! Lohse was awesome for his first start.

And they kept it going against the Brew Crew on Friday. Beltran and Holliday going back to back, and 2 batters later, Freese drilling another HR off Gallardo was a beautiful thing. Let's hope this keeps going.

Grienke was very very good yesterday. Tip your hat to him and then go pound the Crew for Easter Sunday.

I know its early but I hope giving up HRs doesn't become a trend with the 'pen. I still get the feeling Salas hasn't fully recovered from last season's workload.
