NCAAF  > General NCAAF  > We Finally get a Playoff! So how can they screw this up?

OK it's looking like we'll get some sort of 4 team playoff.

They still have to figure out how to pick the teams, where and when to play the games and how the bowls do or do not fit in. And it looks like the AQ is a thing of the past as well.

So ... how could they still screw this up?

They did nix the 8 or 16 team playoff...thankfully.

As long as they don't get into any scenario where they end up with 3 semi-final teams (Rose Bowl)...I can accept it..

By having a "selection committee".

+1

As I understand, the thought process is that since March Madness is so successful with a committee selecting the teams in the playoffs. HOWEVER, I don't think this will work in CFB as it is only 4 teams.

Need to decide on the formula (top 4 CC's or top 4 ranked...or whatever)....and once that is decided, then everyone knows what they need to work towards and we can go from there....but it is the NCAA...so it will be screwed up

I really have no problem with the current rankings system employed by the BCS. Pick 4 teams, let them duke it out, crown a champion. Let the rest do what has always been done. Play the bowl games. But, let the playoffs cycle between the traditional bowl games that used to dominate New Year's day, and that is the Orange, Sugar, Cotton, and Rose. EFF-the-Fiesta!

LOL...never did like the Fiesta Bowl...and always thought the Cotton should have been in the BCS....

This is the best news to come out of College football in a long time so if "they screw this up" it should still be a huge improvement over the current BCS one versus two format.

I'd like to see the top four ranked conference champs but with a provision to use the top three conf champs along with the highest ranked other team when we have a situation like we did last year with LSU and Alabama.

Also I'd like to see the two semi-final games played on campus, EFF all the big bowls with the way they do business as is.

Frick the bigtime bowls... They are a corrupting influence in CFB. The conferences should show them who is boss. Once they drop the demand of the school buying unpurchased tickets, then let them back into the party.

The way the BCS is ranked is probably the best of the polls out there, since they take into account many different polls. But, this method still is a "touchy-feely" system. The teams should be conference champions. Every time there was a re-match, people feel cheated. And, think about it, if you can't win your conference, how can you win the NCG? IMO, you can't.

I agree, the remaining bowls should still exist....with the caveat the demand for guaranteed ticket sales is dropped. One of my softball players has a cousin who plays softball for the OU Bobcats. She was saying the team has to get to games 2 hours early, so they can take care of the field, since the Athletic Department had to make cuts to pay off the bowl game.

As for the semis, these games should be played on campus.....it is much more likely the stadium will be sold out than a far away bowl site (with a potential next game somewhere else.) IF the NCG isn't on campus, then have the NCAA bid out where the NCG is played.....and allow for the possibility to play this game north of the Mason-Dixon! And if the semis don't get played on campus, then have these be bid out as well.

+1, probably the best way for a 4 team playoff, although the Rose Bowl is probably out of contention. Bet they will always opt for the top available PAC/B1G matchup.

JK, I have a question for you as the resident Bammer homer.

If the new system is set up to have ONLY conf champs get in, is it gonna be known unofficially as "The Bama System" because of how Bama won the MNC this year? And if so, are the Bammer faithful gonna be PO'ed about it?

My thoughts too. But we'll probably get one anyway.

Yes ... and hopefully it will follow a similar path to that of the NCAA basketball tournament. Starting with a 4 team playoff is a huge victory ... now they can work on a consensus to expand it down the road.

Another side benefit to the discussions is the desire to wrap everything up as close to Jan 1 as possible. I hope they deliver on this promise.
