Phil Emery is doing a terrific job. I only wish we had gotten rid of JA years ago. Now lets see what Phil has up his sleeve for the rest of the draft and off season. There's only one thing to say; The Bears are going back to the playoffs in 2012!!! GO BEARS!!!

bearsfan......I'm disappointed in the selection of Shea McClellin. He is more of a LB than a legitimate DE. He doesn't possess great upper body strength, had three concussions in college and was projected as a late first round pick. I wish we could have drafted either Chandler Jones or Nick Perry. We had a shot at both of those guys but Emery shot himself in the foot.
Today has been my day for mistakes, the man the Bears drafted, his name is Shea McClellin NOT McClanahan. Sorry Shea. He played Middle linebacker on 1st and 2nd downs and pass rushing DE on 3rd down. Which immediately made me wonder if the Bears are looking for possibly replacing Brian Urlacher in the future and getting a dynamic pass rusher on 3rd downs? Alot of very good things are being said about him. The way people are talking about him it reminds me of how they spoke of Brian Urlacher right after the Bears drafted him.
I applaud Phil Emery on having the courage of going and getting who he thought was best and not who the "Experts" considered to be the best. I hope he really works out for the Bears. Now I'm even more curious as to who the Bears will draft the rest of the way. Look out Chicago, but it's starting to look like the biggest and best aquisition the Bears got during this off season might have been Phil Emery!!! GO BEARS!!!

We needed a DE and Emery went and drafted a LB instead. McClellin might become a very good LB but we needed a physical pass rushing end. I'm not happy with this pick.

I agree this may be a replacement for Urlacher, 4.63 40 could be a beast in the middle when Brian calls it quits.

I'm a Cowboys fan but I'm originally from Chicago and now live in Denton Texas. My parents still live in the Chicago area and my dad was really pissed when I talked to him on the phone after the Bear's selection. I sure hope this works out for your team.

The Cowboys got a great CB in Morris Claiborne after Jerry Jones traded up in the draft. Our secondary is very weak and this should help.

The hitting in the NFL is much more intense thus if he's had 3 he's going to get alot more in Chicago it is well known the hitting is more intense in the NFL. I really hope someone made a mistake. If I had known that I wouldn't have wanted him anyway shape or form. Everything I read said good positive things about him. I saw not one word about any concussions or any inuries at all. I really really hope you are wrong drip drop. If not, it sounds like we got burned!!! GO BEARS!!!

Drip Drop and Guns, Everything I can find on this kid is positive. He's fast enough, he's a disruptive force, he plays both MLB and DE. He "Bows" the offensive line by himself, and Todd McShea said he rates out to be picked around the 19th pick. (He said that BEFORE the draft.) He is a smart hard working farm boy who just doesn't stop. Etc, etc, etc. No one that I can find has ANYTHING negative to say about this kid!
Where you came up with the thing on concussions I'd like to know. And according to the places I've read he's strong enough too. So please tell us where you read the things you are saying. Si.com, NFL.com, chicagobears.com, and others are where I'm quoting from. How about you? Or are you just trying to upset the loyal Bear fans who you don't want to be happy because they got a good player? GO BEARS!!!

Emery dropped the ball on this pick...Your first round draft choice needs to be a starter...Shea McClellin is not a starter, feels like old drafts with Jerry Angelo involved...Big Mistake, the board was so wide open.

As I argued with JA Lovie has more influence/pull on draft day than some think, the GM works closely with the coach when it comes to picks. True enough it's the GM who is in charge of the scouts but ultimately when the draft board goes up and decisions are made it usually a collaboration between the Coaches, GM. The scouts only provide info and film on the players it's then up to the GM and Coach to hash out/decipher and decide on who to pick.
To me this pick seems more like McClellin is more fit at LB in a 3-4 scheme than a DE in a 4-3 scheme and I imagine it came down to the fact Emery scouted McClellin for the Chiefs who run a 3-4 and Lovie wanting a DE opposite Peppers. I view this pick as a collaboration/compromise pick between both Lovie and Emery and shows the possibility the two are not on the same page with each other as far as the team needs goes.
I agree at this point I think this pick was a reach with the board still wide open with Reiff, DeCastro, Jones and Mercilus etc. sitting there.
I did expect this Bears draft to be heavily defensive driven and did expect them to take a DE or DL with their first few picks and go Cornerback, OL and W.R. in no particular order in the later rounds.
Right now I'm not excited about this pick but I have to admit I don't know a lot about him other that what I've read and watched since the pick was made. Hope he turns out to be everything Emery and Smith praise him up to be but right now I remain unimpressed and skeptic and hope I'm wrong. You never really know until they step on the field and show what they can or cannot do. With the way this pick went it should make the rest of the draft interesting to say the least.

I agree BG. McClellin would be a better fit in a 3-4 defense but is better suited for LB in a 4-3 scheme like the Bears use. There were some bonafide hand on the ground pass rushing ends still available but Emery passed on them.

I attend Bears games every year and have been a fan all my life and you refer to me as a dupe. I didn't stir the pot but only offered my opinion on this draft pick. You are the one attacking me for my analysis on the first round selection. I never attacked you or anyone else here for their opinions and I seriously question if you really are a Bears fan. BG and I have both been critical of management but that doesn't mean we aren't fans.

HA HA HA.........you make me laugh and anyone who knows me or who has commented/interacted with me on these message boards over the last 3 years knows otherwise. Just ask anyone who has posted on the NFL message boards here over the last 3 years. I never attacked only offered my opinion based on what I've read and seen and BG and I have interacted on here long before you were here. But go on as you were and we will let those who read judge for themselves.

To continue with my post above there ...The Bears have to be the only team in the NFL that have ZERO clue how to maximize the talent they have. The way the Bears draft, they might not get another QB as good as Cutler for another 20 or 30 years and they already had him injured once. And they STILL don't prioritize protecting him and getting him the weapons he needs to be as good as he can?For years they had decent weapons around the quarterback position ... but no good QB. Now they FINALLY got their hands on a really good one in Cutler and they flatly refuse to give him what he needs to maximize his talent going forward.I swear to God the people in charge of this team are dyslexic!
The Bears really needed either a top tier OL or DE but drafted a LB instead. I wonder what Emery was thinking when he made this pick.
We needed a top tier OL or DE but got a LB. What was Emery thinking?
