You know BGDUECE there is another option if the Bears would win the Super Bowl, Lovie could decide to RETIRE. Or am I dreaming on both accounts?
The Bears will do better than expected this year since they FINALLY have an Offensive Co-ordinator that knows how to coach and call the right plays. Plus this one allows audibles too. I can't believe I ever thought Martz could ever coach. I guess for once I should have listened to the Lions fans.
Interesting season oh yea, GO BEARS!!!

Martz fell in love with the Cutler cannon and could only vision plays of 25 yards or more. If he had not been so hard headed, he would not have been forced into early retirement...He will never work in the NFL as a coach again.
BF I hope the Bears win the Super Bowl, but what would disappoint me more would be if the lost in the 1st round, and Lovie got an extension...He must get to the NFC Championship game, and not get blown out to be considered for an extension...I would have liked a clean sweep of Angelo & Smith...but to be fair, you can not punish Lovie for the Caleb Hanie thing...
So Lovie has another chance...win or go home...
You are kinder than I am on giving Lovie an extension. I would say he has to make it to the Super Bowl and no get blown out. However just for the fun of it, who should be the next coach? I prefer Cowher, but if Mike Tice does a superb job shouldn't he be considered? And would Marinelli even stay if Lovie isn't the Head Coach? Would Marinelli want the Head Coaching job if Lovie is fired and not stay if Tice would get it? Oh this season is really going to be something interesting in many ways. GO BEARS!!!!

I'm happy with the Packers draft. Ted Thompson really got some studs for the defense and we still have the top scoring offense in the NFL. I'm excited for this season.

Then why was this considered the first non Ted Thompson draft? Where there are no superstar candidates. When you are 15-1, you usually draft at the end, and do not get the best talent.
Your top two picks should be in the rotation early, but the #1 person on your draft board got drafted by the Chicago Bears, and IMO that is why the Bears drafted him, just so that the Packers could not. Now that is a first, draft another teams needs, instead of yours...The Tape that I saw on Shea says that he is a freak LB...what you hope Nick Perry can do...but I have serious doubts that he will be another Clay Matthews. Week two on a Thursday night should be very interesting.

I agree that McClellin would have been the Packers first pick if he had still been available as he would be a grat fit in their 3-4 defense. Nick Perry would be better suited for DE in the Bears 4-3 scheme and I was surprised they passed on him. It will be interesting to see if Perry can adjust to playing OLB as he was a hand on the ground pass rusher in college.

And we Bear fans care why? Oh I get it we need know what and who the "enemy" has on their team, but the way you phrased it makes it sound to me like we should care more about the Packers draft than the Bear's draft like you obviously do.
I still say Phil Emery is supposed to be a draft guru of sorts. So if this man says that someone is the best man for the job I'm going to drink the koolaide at least for his first draft untill we can at least see the man/men on the field. This also applies to his 2nd, 3rd, and 4th picks too. All of which only the second pick is the player to be playing the position/s that he played in college. You can make a case for the 4th pick but really he is expected to play 3 to 4 positions so I count him too as an unknown factor in what position/s he might play at for the Bears. GO BEARS!!!

Are you saying BGDEUCE that this is a kind of payback to the Packers for jumping ahead of us and drafting Morgan Burnett which made the Bears pick Major Wright two years ago? This then made us pick safetys the next two seasons, so in hindsight it was a good strategy for the Packers.
All things considered though I really have my hopes up for these two kids we just got (Conte last year and Harden this year.) I'm very hopefull that they can solve our safety problems for the next decade!!! If their speed and skills work out we might have a pair of ProBowl players in time. Only time will tell, but I'm hopefull. GO BEARS!!!

I am saying that this is part of the dysfunction that the Chicago Bears front office has shown for years...
Though the Bears did not make any major signings in Free Agency, the moves that they made before the draft did improve the team. I think they could have done better in the draft in the first round.
The more I read about Ashlon Jeffery, I think they may be right, and I may be wrong. But on the 1st round pick, I hope I am wrong too, but I do not think so. Where we would have differed is the 6th & 7th round picks would have been trade bait to try to move up in the first and 2nd round to get the players we need the most.
We will have to wait untill the regular season starts to really be sure, but I like the top 4 picks. I think they sorted out the players skills and decided who would be the best at what job they were wanting to fill. I like the fact that they didn't limit themselves to just the full time DE's. Being able to find someone (like I hope they did) to fill certain jobs to me shows creativity and the fact that they are doing the best job they can. I know it's a gamble, but if they prove themselves right what then?
Actually the pick I like the most is the 3rd one at Safety. I think by the end of the season Conte and Harden will be our starting safetys. It's been a very long time since we had two good safetys together. I would have to say it was when we had Gary Fencik and Dave Duerson together. (When we had Mike Brown and others we only had one safety who was really good.) What I saw from this offseason was they looked the entire team over and drafted the best men for the jobs no matter what position that they had played in college. This is why the get paid the big bucks to evaluate both the teams needs and the players that are available at the price that they can pay.
I also think that the safety position was the only position that they could have drafted a man with that pick in the third round that someone could come in a make an impact. Because after Reiff was chosen there wasn't another left tackle in the entire draft that they could have gotten that could come in and start. Why should they waste a pick just to satisfy the fans when they could fix an area of need?
And if anyone wants to debate the Reif vs DE pick I'm willing to say I think DE was the most important position to fill between the two. We had to get someone who could get to Rogers and Stafford faster than Izzy. He is just too slow rushing the passer. Thus our opponents could stack their offense to stop Julius so they could pick us apart just like they have done to us the last two years. Haven't we seen it enough the last two years to KNOW that we must stop Rogers and Stafford to beat the Packers and Lions consistantly? To me and the majority of fans based on the polls, it was DE that needed the upgrade more than Left Tackle. And remember, this is just Phil's first season drafting. So we have time and I think to expect him to fill all areas of need in the first off season is unreasonable and unfair. Even if it takes two seasons it will get done. Besides it took three years to make the 85 Bears if I'm remembering correctly. So "Paitence Grasshopper." lol GO BEARS!!!

That is the exact reason why I question the 1st round pick.
Though he made have the speed, he will be working against bigger, stronger tackles who will crush him...IMO he would be a great LB...as a LB he is not big, he is huge, and super fast...It will all be known when pre-season starts...If they play him late into pre-season games, he should be able to dominate playing against backups...all he needs is playing time, and we will know all the answers soon
I do realize the possibility of him playing LB in the future. However consider this, next year or two when it does become necissary to replace Urlacher, we will be in the unique position to draft either a MLB or a DE if McClellin is capable of doing both jobs. Next he is 260 lbs, why do people keep saying he's small? Most DE's are smaller than him. Now his strength will be improved in the weightroom as soon as they can get him there. It could be upgraded and he could put on 20 lbs of muscle. But I still say that Emery and company looked at every possible sceinario for who to draft. His reputation is as a draft genius. So untill I see different, I'm looking at him as a future ProBowler. This pick also will light a fire under Corey Wooten which can only be a good thing since he has shown us next to NOTHING!!! However I still say the pick I'm most interested to see be a sucess (Being a #1 I'm figuring that McClellin is a shoo in.) is #4 Harding. If he and McClellin can start by game 5, we could have the best defense in the NFL by the end of the season!!! Add in the offense and special teams we should have and we will be talking playoffs for many years to come!!! At least as long as Cutler is our QB. Which could be another 10 years!!! GO BEARS!!!

260 is light for a DE...he will be playing Tackles who weigh from 300-375.
They are strong enough to pick him and throw him in to the bench. If this kid could not play LB, it would have been a wasted pick. Their was at least four starting DE on the board when the Bears picked.
The pick that I am starting to like is Ashlon Jeffery, he could be a ROY the candidate.

McClellin was drafted for LB as he is too small to play every down as a DE. They may use him there in obvious pass rush situations but my guess is that he will eventually replace Urlacher.
Small schmall. Oh I can go all over the league and find players that are his size or smaller that are starting. Just two simple examples are Elvis Dumerville and John Abraham. However I'm not going to argue the nuts and bolts of two or even 10 pounds. It's almost June and that means the NFL is going to be opening camps in less than two 1/2 short rumor filled months. So why should we argue over something that we are going to see the truth of in such a short time. I say po tay toe and he says poe ta toe. I can't wait, and if even Brian Urlacher is impressed with the amount of talent assembled on this team, then I say we are going to have a very good year.
The amount of talent on this team is probably the best since the 85 Bears. Or sacriledge of sacriledge could they be better? That's the question. Remember how the slant pass to Jerry Rice killed us? Well how about Jay Cutler to Brandon Marshall or Alshon Jeffery? Can any team get to Jay before he gets it to those two? Just how good or bad is our o-line if they only have to block for three seconds? GO BEARS!!!

While I agree that our talent level has improved management will have to address the Matt Forte situation by either trading him or signing him to a new contract. He could be a major locker room distraction if the team doesn't do anything.
I don't believe that this new management will be stupid enough to allow Matt Forte's contract to become a problem. Besides, the players and management/coaches know that this team has the potential to become something special.
If somehow they solve the offensive line problems in the next two seasons, (Only one of several ways is needed to solve this problem and they are working on several, not entrusting the solution to only one way. [This is one reason why I like Phil Emery so much more than JA.]) this team is good enough on paper to become a dynasty for the next 5-7 years making the playoffs and challenging for the Super Bowl each and every year. (That to me is a dynasty.) The clunkers in this possibility are, as I said the offensive line, and injuries which are a part of the NFL.
Sure we will need to replace Urlacher and other key defensive players, but the way Phil Emery has filled our needs in just one season really makes me think that he can overcome losing key players and still keep the machine rolling. Think about it, JA would always come up with a single solution to the Bears problems. Phil Emery uses the shotgun approach and says if this way won't work how about this way, or that way? And he seems to always have multiple solutions for every single problem. How I love the way this man thinks!!! GO BEARS!!!

And in no way am I wanting to push Brian out the door. I hope they sign him for another 2/3 years and let him decide when it's time to quit.

I agree I think the Bears/Emery drafted McClellin to keep him out of the Packers hands and also wonder if he will be able to put hand in the dirt and rush the passer as a pass rushing DE in the 4-3 scheme. Watching film on him he is much better suited in a 3-4 scheme as a stand up rusher from different positions. I think Marinelli and Lovie have their work cut out for them trying to convert McClellin to strictly a DE role. If I had to compare McClellin it would have to be to Jared Allen, they both are high motor guys, Allen is listed at 6'6" though, to McClellin at 6'3" and Allen is listed at 270 to McClellins 260. If McClellin can put on a few pounds and get a little stronger I hope he can surprise a few of us skeptics.
I was also on the fence with Alshon Jeffery but think he could be great opposite Marshall and reading about OTA's lately he has been catching about everything thrown his way and has the leaping ability to go with his size. I think the Bears have vastly improved their W.R's with Marshall, Jeffery, Bennett and Hester. It like having giraffes on the outside and a cheetah in the middle, hopefully a pair of cheetah's if Knox can return but that's a big IF as I know neck and back injuries are/can be detrimental to an footballs players career.
The O-Line is my big concern as they have to protect Cutler to allow him to utilize the W.R. weapons. As I thought I'm hearing Williams is competing with Webb for the LT spot and they are hoping Carimi is the answer at RT but he is still recovering from his knee injury, remember Marc Colombo. These injury's can take some time to get over both physically and mentally only time will tell but the Bears do not have to many options open for an O-Line that has given up over a hundrd sacks the past two seasons. Yes I know some can be blamed on Martz and his scheme but as Cutler mentioned linemen still have to be able to block one on one once in awhile and the visions of Allen having his way with Webb last season is cause for concern as you can't help the LT out on every down especially those third and long situations.
Here's hoping it plays out well but we will not really know until the season gets underway.
