MLB  > General MLB  > Bias

To be White Sox fan in a city of everything Cubs, it makes me wonder what it would be like to live in a city where there is only one choice of team per major sport. Which brings me to why I am writing this.

Most of you, with the exception of the east coast, I am sure, have noticed the amount of bias the teams from the east receive on national sports networks. I definitely do not want to mention which networks, but it contains 4 capitalized letters.

Being based in an east coast state(Connecticut), I could see why there is a bias for all things East. But to show no love to any other professional team outside of the Red Sox, Yankees, Patriots, and Giants, I mean come on. Sports DO exist in cities such as Chicago(where it seems both our baseball teams are headed for the postseason), Los Angeles, Houston, Milwaukee, Denver, Oakland, Seattle and the list could keep on going and going.

Here is an excellent example. Let's go back to April 18, 2007....

Mark Buehrle of the White Sox throws a no hitter.

Top Story on that network: What did A-Rod do?

No-hitters in baseball don't happen all that often. But when they do, I would think most of us sports fan, no matter what team you are a fan of, would like to know(there may be a day when a trivia question about that may be asked to you). Now I'm not saying it wasn't covered at all, because here in Chicago that was all that was talked about for the next month, but to make it a "2nd rate" story, well that is just uncouth.

I know the White Sox had a horrible season in '07, but to wonder what A-Rod did that day, was that really more important than a no-hitter in America's pasttime?

I am not taking anything away from those teams in the east. The Red Sox and Yankees have such a rich tradition and a wonderful history that is hard to compare other teams to. And the Giants and Patriots, well they faced off in a Super Bowl for the ages last year. They have great athletes, wonderful fans and a very proud tradition. I have been to both New York and Boston in the past 2 years, and they are among my favorite non-tropical vacation spots.

Us "other" guys out here would just like the national attention we deserve. Of course, if our teams have bad years or losing seasons, I don't expect much media attention.

Just remember, those east teams haven't ALWAYS been at the top either, guys.

Let's hear from all you "other" guys out there....how do YOU feel about your teams' national media coverage?
