The 49ers wide receiver corps was given a massive overhaul over the offseason. If the offense and his stats don't improve as a result, I think we're going to see Kaepernick by the time the season ends.

All observers say that Moss looks better than ever. Crabtree has come out and admitted that he has not been healthy during his 3 year NFL career but says that he is now healthier than he has ever been. It has taken Alex Smith 7 years to realize that his throwing motion and accuracy is sub-prime, so he went to a throwing mechanic that worked with him on improving these flaws of his. So with more speed and experience at WR and RB Smith has all the weapons. Smith has about 100 days to plan on the first game of the season against the player he is constantly judged by-Aaron Rodgers- the hype for this game will not only be about the possibility of the 2 teams meeting again for the NFC Championship but also about what happened in the 2005 draft. Depending on how he does and how he looks in his first 2 games @Green Bay, Detroit, may determine early in the season if they are willing to try one of the other 3 QB's on their roster, all of them Harbaugh declares can start in the NFL.
Alex Smith di an excellent job managing the offense and the Niners should have been to their first Super Bowl since 94 if not for the mistakes of a certain Rookie (I also believe the Coach made an error by letting a Rookie handle the rock in such a big game). If there are no key injuries during the season, I expect the Niners to be back in the playoffs for a 2nd year running. But representing the NFC in the Super Bowl will be a re-motivated Packers team.

Hey Ripper,Randy Moss lasted about 2 games with the Vikes,He's a locker room Titannic, and can Fubar SF,locker room,as no matter what 'he can Bring too the 49r's?There will be a cost of a playoff spot this year.Fore armed is fore warned. We tried that with TO,we went 4-12 with 'Batman and Robin',just look at what happened too Philly last year. I'd mention the Jets ,but they dug thier own grave there.
I really doubt that Randy Moss came out of retirement just to become a locker room drama queen, he can walk any time he pleases if he is not happy with the progress the 49ers are making. He is currently working out with the 49ers and yet is not receiving a penny for his efforts and will not receive any money until he plays in his first regular season game. He could have tried out for other teams that would have paid more money but said he liked what Harbaugh had to say and the 2 seem to have a mutual respect for one another and a desired goal of a Super Bowl. People that have been watching Moss in practice say that he looks great and is adding a lot of good knowledge during what they call the "Team School". Moss even has a new fishing buddy- Patrick Willis.
I'm sure you heard recently that T.O. said he wanted to play for the 49ers or Raiders. I think the 49ers are out of the question because they have enough WR's, and probably not enough room on their roster to keep them all. But I was all for inviting T.O. to try out and if he magically did make the team you'd have the 2nd and 3rd all time best receivers on one team and the #1 all time occasionally visiting practices. The thought of having Moss, Owens, and Crabtree as wide outs, Vernon Davis as TE and LaMichael James in the backfield, now that would be an offense to see and fear.

Perhaps if they were all in their prime years.

Obviously Smith should be given the edge, but there is something exciting about having Kaepernick on the team. I just wonder if he will ever start a game for SF minus an innjuury to Alex Smith.

QUOTE(#3):
The defense returns intact and will again keep the teams in all games. Should be another great season for the 49ers. I like the receiver additions, which should also help Vernon Davis as well. In the past, Davis was the only threat. I guess Moss arrived in good shape, and additng the experienced Manningham and the youngster Jenkins should allow them to open it up. It'll be interesting to watch both Smith and Moss this year. Will Moss be a problem? Take plays off? I think he's 35 now, and most receivers go right down the tubes at or before age 36, unless your name is Rice, Brown, Jimmy Smith, Carter, Joiner, Mason, or Galloway. I would never count Moss out--if he wants it he can probably do it. Just like if he wants to be a cancer he can do that as well. I doubt that will happen under Harbaiugh, though. It's hard to find receivers when they're not open. There should be a lot more open guys this season. No doubt Harbaugh will make the adjustments best suited for the new offense, and it's hard to imagine the 49ers not winning the NFC West in 2012. Seattle might be an improved team, but it's the Niners' Division to win or lose.
As you said Ripper, with the players on the team, there should be absolutely no reason for there not to be somebody open. I like the addition of Manningham and if Moss can give us 35-50 for 400+ yds with 4 TDs, then he was a good sign in my opinion. Hopefully he produces much more.
As for Jenkins, I learned a long time ago not to get excited about rookie WRs until you actually see them play, but they call him "E.T." because of his big hands and he has the quickness, so maybe there is an Ace in the hole??

Howdy EZ. Happy Memorial Day!
About moss, I don't think he will be given a chance to be a distraction to this team. I also don't think he will want to. Everybody knows that when Moss is happy, is performance reflects that. And like Narrator mentioned, he has developed friendships already strangely enough with Patrick Willis. And has been a surprisingly good mentor for Jenkins. Harbaugh has said that moss has been just as much a coach as a player out there, and that says a lot.
Not that anything happening in May will translate into September success, but like Tim Tebow, "I am excited" to see what he can do. He may be a make type player, but there is enough talent at WR where he won't be a break type player.

Something tells me the 05' draft means nothing to Smith and he will look at that week 1 matchup against the Packers as an important game to win for that #1 seed possibility and nothing else.

You are a little misinformed. Kyle Williams was not a rookie, and who was suppose to return the punts for SF? Ginn was out and Williams was our #2 guy. Not to mention, his two cough-ups could not be predicted. He did have a 50yd return that set up a short field for the offense in that same game, but those two **** ups will be what everybody remembers unfortunetly.
And as far as your SB prediction, could happen. Who knows?

Selective memory- you wish to see Kyle Williams as the fall guy for their loss to the Giants. Although fans want Williams gone it is clear that the coaches and players know what a valuable player he is to have on the team, he put a block on a defensive lineman 2X his size that set up Alex Smiths TD run against New Orleans. The 49ers did not draft anyone who could be a backup punt returner to Ginn unless there was an undrafted free agent with punt return experience, so from the looks of things Williams will be back. But if he doesn't make the team it will not be because of his game against NYG it will be because they have found someone bigger, faster and better hands to replace him as the #6 WR they plan to have on the roster.
Selective memory II- When Steve Young beat Brett Favre for the first time, in playoff game, T.O. caught the game winning T.D. in the last seconds, in traffic, over the middle of the field. T.O. was the hero. That catch helped fans erase from their minds all the easy catchable passes he dropped all day long, he went from goat to hero with that one catch.

Like I said it represents a lot. You think that Aaron Rodgers doesn't want that game? He still talks about how upset he was that the 49ers didn't draft him. Maybe it should not be an important game for GB as well? They are not going to run away with their division this year as it will be a close race between GB, Det, Chic. The Press and fans will play up the "What Ifs" in the 2005 draft and those "What Ifs" will keep echoing in Smiths mind if he loses, the fans and press will remind him. If he can't live up to that games pressure then surely fans will see nothing important if the 49ers lose in Week 2 against Detroit- The Press and Fans will be hyping this as a rematch to " The Hand Shake" Will the 49ers win their division if they lose their first 2 games? Probably, but they won't go anywhere in the playoffs.

At the same time, Narrator, the better teams/players are able to do their jobs without worrying about what the press or other tedams/players have to say. There is some truth to your ways of thinking, but the real truth is that it is one game played on the first week of the season. And a hell of a first game too.
What if means you can't move forward.
