NFL  > Arizona Cardinals  > Strange Interview with VP of Officiating about SB
February 4, 2009, 11:06 PM
The following is an actual (legit) interview with NFL VP of Officiating, Mike Pereira by KFFL:

Q: Why didn't you review the call at the end of the game on [Kurt] Warner's fumble?

Pereira: Ha, well, at that point, the Steelers were already celebrating like they'd won, so we couldn't pull them off the field.

*Note: Later on the NFL Network, Pereira admitted they made a mistake and should have reviewed the play.
-------------------------

Q: Why no flag for using the football as a prop? This would have put the Cardinals great field position.

Pereira: The refs just missed this one. But, I mean, come on, can't you allow a guy to celebrate when he's caught the biggest touchdown of his career. It really was a great moment for Santonio and the Steelers organization.
-------------------------

Q: What about the roughing-the-passer call on Ben Roethlisberger?

Pereira: To be honest, I'm not really sure what the issue with this call is. Karlos Dansby pushed him violently to the ground after he had thrown the ball.
-------------------------

Q: It appears Harrison punched him a couple times before slamming him to the ground twice, once after the whistle. Why wasn't Harrison thrown out?

Pereira: I'm not really sure what to tell you here. It was late in the game, and we didn't want one of the best players ... reigning defensive player ... to be ... taken out of ..(the game).
