Can Rich even get a title shot?
Rich Franklin is looking for a title shot at 185, knowing he has NO chance to wade through the waters at 205 for a title shot, no matter how many contenders Jones caps a year.

The problem is not if Rich can put together a title run, but how can he?

Franklin is correct, everytime the UFC has needed a headliner for an event that needs to beat 100K on PPV on short notice, they call him. He is right in his thinking that they owe him a chance for a title without needing a 5 or 6 fight winning streak.

So putting on my Dana and Joe shoes- here is what I announce on UFC Insider. (Check local listings)

"Rich Franklin wants a title shot- or he's going to retire. Franklin is a Hall of Famer and wants one more title run. Fine. Win 3 fights, and the next title shot is yours."

So first off we have a problem, where do we throw Rich at first? Where do we even rank him? Look at his past 5 fights.

W-Wanderlei Silva
L-Forrest Griffin
W-Chuck Liddell
L-Vitor Belfort
W-Wanderlei Silva

Is Forrest a top 10 LHW? Was Chuck? Vitor might be 4/5 at 185, but Franklin was blasted by him- again at short notice. Fun thing is 3 of the previous 4 fights were short notice favors to the Powers That Be.

Dave, why do you hate Rich so much?

What makes you say that?
I loves me some Rich! I think he can beat everyone I neamed but Sonnen (and Anderson)

That being said- he can LOSE to everyone I listed as well

Haha, I just meant that no one wants to see Rich fight Andy again. Unless you really really hate Rich.

Jim, would you honestly say that the Anderson that crushed Rich is better than the one today?

It most likely is.

But, arguably, the relative decline in skills has been more pronnounced on the part of Franklin that on the part of Anderson.

Also, Anderson continues to become a smarter fighter, to balance out any diminishment.

Yep. And I think it's safe to assume that he incurred in more damage in his pre UFC days than in the UFC.

Unless Chael wins, I don't see Franklin wanting to go anywhere near a title shot again. I like watching Franklin fight but the disparity between the two fighters during the rematch was ridiculous. I hope someone makes Ace rewatch those two fights before he accepts a third with Silva.

I think Rich has a better shot to beat Anderson than he does beating Sonnen

would like to see your comments there Joao.

Ok.. you have my interest piqued..walk me through how Rich could possibly beat Anderson Silva. I'm trying to see your point and I just cannot picture it. Unless Rich stabs him before the walkouts like in the movie "Gladiator", Ace doesn't win that fight.
