NCAAF  > General NCAAF  > How about a new thread on how to save money if your a DirectTV customer
July 17, 2012, 02:50 PM
I called to complain about viacom dropping the channels (even though I am on Direct TV's side of this argument).
When I complained they offered compensation.

They gave me $20 off per month for a year. $240.

I will purchase Breaking Bad at iTunes next month if they don't settle. That will cost about $22, that math works for me. If they do settle I can catch up on repeats for free.

Viacom is asking for rate increases for totally worthless channels like 'Chiller', 'True', 'Logo' to name few and channels we never watch like Nick and MTV so this is not that big a deal in our home. Daily Show and Colbert are all over the internet and Comedy Central really has nothing else.
How is this effecting you?

FYI We live in Blue Diamond outside of town and have no option for any wired services and must make our own power. So it is Direct TV or Dish or nothing.

Hammered, what kind of power generation system are you using? My bro-in-law used to design solar systems for home-power use.

July 17, 2012  04:01 PM ET

I run a propane generator for about 50% of my power, about 35% solar and about 15% from 3 windmills. Well water and of course septic tanks.
Storage is the real problem, not too crazy about the 'battery room', but I'd never go back (willingly) to living in a track home or condo again.

There is a big article on CNN today about DirecTV customers calling and mentioning that they were thinking of moving off DirecTV, and getting some fairly nice concessions. Worth a shot.

That's devious and immoral....

Wonder if I could signup for DirecTV then threaten to leave?

Did that come with 9 or just 8 planets?(or is that just a bit taken out of context)

Do NOT mess with anyone whose family can design solar systems.

Just saying....

GR, YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!

LOL!

He's my bro-IN-LAW, not blood relative, so I can't claim any of his genetic capabilities. But he has a degree from UF in Aerospace Engineering -- and his favorite t-shirt is one that says "Why yes, actually, I AM a rocket scientist..."

Uh-UH! It ain't, neither!

;-)

I am always considering other options. I get marketing stuff all the time from ATT, the local cable franchise, Dish, etc, and I check to see if it's a better deal than what I have. So I can fairly state I have considered dropping DirecTV. Why wouldn't I make a fair and accurate statement, and thereby receive a discount or improvement in services?

No problem there, mess with him all you want, now if he designed weapons of any sort--that is another ball of wax--DO NOT MESS WITH.

Does having CenLA park his Hummer (with the TOW and .50 cal mounts) in the parking lot of the Ice Haus count?

Why would you have to purchase Breaking Bad? AMC is still on DirecTV. Watched it Sunday.

Thanks Tnerb (I always knew you were a good person).
Somehow my feeble little brain thought AMC was part of viacom, thankfully I read your post yesterday and watched the rebroadcast last night of the season premier.
Not sure how long it would have taken me to figure that out on my own. Had I not replaced my DVR last fall the old DVR would have recorded it for me.
Thanks again

TnerB does have SOME redeeming qualities....difficult part is figuring out what they are.
