NFL  > General NFL  > The 2012-13 NFC North "Black and Blue" Division

I'm done with doing just the Packers, so that board is being left to die unless someone else wants it. I'd prefer to hang with the other fans from Chicago, Detroit, and Minneapolis. It should be a great season for everyone, but this division has 3 good teams like some others that have a shot to make the playoffs. Should be fun to watch this division play like it's old nickname again. Here's some interesting Facts w/linx:

The nickname Black and Blue Division was coined by Vikings' Public Relations Director Bill McGrane in the 1960s.

First off....time for the WTF snub of the year from the NFL HOF:

Jerry Kramer (1958-1968, all with the Packers)- This one is unanimous around Packer nation. In 1969, he was introduced as a member into the NFL's 50th Anniversary Team. NFL Network claims Kramer to be the biggest snub ever.

He was a five time All-Pro selection and won an NFL title five times. He also won the Super Bowl twice, Super Bowl I and Super Bowl II. Kramer is regarded as the most dominant guard in history. He was the cornerstone to the 1960's Packer dynasty.

NOTES: Kramer was the only guard on the NFL's 50th Anniversary Team and is the only player on that team not in the Hall of Fame. The time for this guy to get in is long overdue.

Okay, this is "Ditto" from the Packer board, but still worthy of repeating. I'll leave the posting of any Bears, Lions, and Vikings stuff to their fans.

I'm not sure why today's teams don't have nicknames. The Monsters of the Midway, the Killer B's, No name Defense to name a few. Are today's players too prima-dona-y?

For the Lions, black and blue means a squad car.

Yes but that's not the problem. The problem is the fans...I would venture a guess that about 50% of today's NFL fans have not always been a fan of their current obsession. I could be wrong but I don't think so, and with that trend, gone are the family stories, the lore of years past, gone are the days of being a "life-long fan" or a "generational fan". Gone are the simple things like nicknames...

People are too quick to move on to the "next best thing"...in ALL aspects of life. Quite sad if you ask me

There was a time when the packers receivers (Lofton, Jefferson, Chamura...etc.) were getting busted for sex offenses, so the fans renamed the goalposts......"Bedposts."

The "ACME" Packers! Funny to be called the ACME (after the local meat packing company) Packers in the beginning when there was nothing comical about them. LOL

Today, people suffer from Low Self Esteem. Meaning, they get easily distressed by their teams failure, and how it reflects on them. "My team is a loser, so am I then..." so they jump on the winning bandwagon of another team so they can feel good about themselves. They even go so far as to claim "I've always been a fan of...."...blah, blah..... Pretty sad indeed.

The Redskins moved to Washington after that season. No connection to the Pats who were part of the original AFL teams.

LOL, I was sending "Lady's Coach Belicat" (a Patriots fan) a little "push" as it were.

You must. Average low temps of -4 in the winter just doesn't work for me.
