Great lighting of the torch....great opening...
July 27, 2012  11:48 PM ET

However...Paul needs to retire....

.... more a symbolic use of the musical icon than an attempt to provide quality entertainment ...

However, it is The Olympics, and that in itself is quality entertainment.

Gotta love The Olympics.

I think I will root for ....
The Red, White, and Blue!

True...it was very symbolic which is what the opening ceremonies are about. It that light, it was good....and he did end on a "better" note.

I particularly like the symbolic passing of the torch from the previous generations to the new generations....it was really moving.

Gonna be fun to watch this week.

Very impressed with the opening ceremonies. Never knew there were so many countries in the world. Very creative lighting of the Olympic "cauldron". As for Sir Paul, I think he almost lost it when his throat was swelled with pride of his country.

July 28, 2012  08:44 AM ET

LOL.....

OK, I grew up with the Beatles....my Mom let me stay home from church so I could watch them on the Ed Sullivan show when they first came here...nothing but the deepest respect for Sir Paul. They have some of the finest songs ever written or played and most are covered by many other bands.

Phelps almost doesn't make the finals (by 0.08 seconds)....can he do it this year?

Phelps finishes out of medals in his first race...Lochte gets the gold.....

I'd been avoiding hearing anything about that particular event all day. Muted the TV when the news anchor said 'spoiler alert', didn't check out any sports sites (including this one) but when I checked my emails there it was in the sports news box at Yahoo. <sigh>

I will say I think Phelps was tired, wasn't comfortable in lane 8, and couldn't believe he didn't do well enough to medal. Hope he can shake this off and win another gold.

True....hoping he gets the record for gold medals....of course his Mom is already making plans for Rio...LOL

Not trying to "surprise" anyone with results...sorry if I spoil it for you....

No, no, I saw the Ryan Seacrest interview with the Phelps family. I also heard the interview Mike gave after the loss and think he really meant what he said to his mother...he'd send her to Rio but wouldn't be in it. This was the first big loss he's ever had and I think it floored him. Hope he can dig down deep for the rest of his meets but another 4 years of training for Rio? I don't think so.

Hey they have some good weed around Rio...or maybe take a trip to Peru for some really good stuff!

Cheers for the Netherlands Field Hockey team.

Feel good story of this Olympics...

Moussa Djibo Issaka from Nigeria....began rowing 3 months ago at the request of his Olympic Committee in order to field an contestant. Finished 1 minute after the next to last competitor but had the crowd cheering for him to finish. Think back to the lady in the Marathon who almost couldn't finish due to extreme cramps....

Anybody hear how the German gymnast dude's ankle is doing?

I was impresssed with his grit after that nasty landing smacked his ankle. You could tell that andle was pretty messed up. Then when his teammate blew his floor routine and he had to go do his so they wouldn't have to take the bad score, he went out there and did an excellent routine. Guy's got cajones.

One of the things I admire about the Olympics....the grit and determination these guys and gals have. And they aren't necessarily doing it for the money....

One of the Home Improvement shows I watch had a married retired Olympic couple...every task they had was a competition on who could do it better, faster, more efficiently....but was all in good fun.
