It all began in the first Olympics held in Ancient Greece. The Ancient Olympic Games were a series of competitions held between representatives of several city-states and kingdoms from Ancient Greece, It featured mainly athletic but also combat and chariot racing events. During the Olympic games all fighting against the participating city-states were postponed until the games were finished. Hence the reason of having the "Warrior Sports" - Shooting, Archery, Horsemanship, Modern Petathlon, etc in the Summer Olympics and Biathlon, Cross Country Skiing, etc in the Winter Olympics. The Winter Sports were born out of Military competitions (especially during WWII) and added into the Olympic Games.
