Don't know about TN and AR, but there are wimpier teams in Cali than Fresno.

I'll take Texas Tech:
Northwestern State (FCS)
North Texas (I-AA)
New Mexico (24 game losing streak)

Wel at least Arky St. won the Sun Belt last year and even though Fresno St. had a losing season last year, they have typically been a tough out and will likely make a bowl game this year.

Hands down, the two weakest non conf schedules go to:

1. Mississippi St.
jackson st., @Troy, *S. Alabama, Middle Tennessee

2. Texas Tech
northwestern st., @*Texas St., New Mexico

*Both S. Alabama Jaguars and Texas St. Bobcats are new members to the Sun Belt and WAC respectively.

I'll vote in my Gators, just so I can beat OT to it. ;-)

Well...if you ever played out of state.

LOL

FACT! Notre Dame is an independent, and plays one of the hardest schedules in the country year after year.
Since i currently live in Omaha NE, I'd have to say Big Red gets away with the wimpiest non conference schedule year after year.
Sorry UCLA but you made the wimpy list.

Jackson St is a FCS school, but it is in-state and the money helps their program...

But still. a weak OOC...

2 corrections....

(1) Norka's right, TT plays Texas St, not North Texas. They were I-AA last year, but move to the WAC for 2012. (2) UNM broke their losing streak last year and finished 1-11.

I'm still sticking with TTU as the worst. Their OOC teams combined for 1 FBS win in 2011. Can't get much worse than that.

As much as the SEC detractors complain about this claim,^^^ in truth it's accurate. As a conference the SEC does indeed play the weakest overall non conf slate but their in conf SoS puts the conference strength of shedule back in the respectable zone.

I'm gonna go with Norka. He held extensive "school" last year on schedules and was very good. I can promise you he can honestly defend his rationale.

Speaking of which...Norka, what was the final analysis on overall SOS when teams played 9 conference games as opposed to 8? Last I recall, it changed things quite a bit. But, my memory ain't too good.

Worse than that? How about their spring game, when Texas Tech only had to play Texas Tech?I'm gonna laugh my **** off when the Red Faders lose one of those OOC games.

I suppose it could be worse. They somehow scheduled Texas St. as a road game.

Norka is definitely the guru on this stuff. I just ninja'd him on TTU. If he thinks MSST is worse, that's okay too.

Hey Deep Creek, I just did go back and look at the scores each team was appointed for their non conf schedule and sure enough Texas Tech had the lowest score and next lowest was Miss St.

The thing is with these two schools, they have been scheduling like this for years in a row, so it's not because a program they had scheduled jumped ship on them and left them in a bind forcing them to add a puff.

And that's exactly what happened at Florida St, they would have had one of the toughest non conf schedules in the FBS had West Virginia not opted out. The Noles were forced to add a second fcs team but they still have the Gators and USF.

Oh, we of little faith have only SOS rankings to go by. For the past ten seasons I've seen ND ranked between #7 and #30; respectable but not unique. Plus, none of your games are crucial conference games that could mean the difference between playing or missing a CCG.

I will agree your 2012 schedule is loaded, maybe the toughest in the country.

That was a fun exercise by the way, it's pretty surprising how much and varied info can be had just by poring over the win - loss records...

Anyway, I wish I had a number for the Big XII when they still played four non conf but I don't have that in front of me, it almost certainly would have been similar to the Big Ten, SEC numbers.

It's a significant jump in SoS going from eight to nine conference games. The Big XII is projected to have the most difficult SoS this year followed closely by the PAC-12, the only other conf with a nine game in conf schedule.

Kansas plays:
Northern Illinois,
Rice,
South Dakota State (FCS school)
