17 games are scheduled for Thursday, 8/30/12.
5 games are scheduled for Friday, 8/31/12.
53 games are scheduled for Saturday, 9/1/12 (Starting with ND vs Navy @ 9:00 AM EDT, 6:00 AM PDT; CFB for breakfast!).
2 games are scheduled for Sunday, 9/2/12.
1 game is scheduled for Monday, 9/3/12 (GT vs VT, battle of the nerds).

Almost all of the Saturday games are games against piddly opponents. A bunch of blow-outs that are not worth watching. (Michigan-Alabama is the clear exception here).

I'll be away fishing. The fun doesn't start until later.

GFS is largely correct. Got the pick'em up and my bet is everyone ends up with a very close record this week.

A tale of two programs

Among the opening games, those of one State's two premier schools stand out. Due to TCU's induction into the B12-2, Oklahoma was left scrambling to add an OOC game this past winter. They are scheduled to play at UTEP. Yep. An away game in scenic El Paso. On the other hand, OK State has scheduled its home opener against Savannah State, and underperforming FCS team, 1-11 in its past two seasons, 11-73 in its past seven. There's cake, and then there's.... twinkies. Not even Sarah Lee could sanction this bit of egregious scheduling. True frosh QB or no, the Cowboys shame themselves with this one.

The University of Akron opens up the season both chronologically and alphabetically against another team that's bowl banned this season. Central Florida is gonna hand the Zips their heads in Akron. OUCH?

With new HC Terry Bowden along with Chuck Amato and Terrell Buckley I see the Zips going nowhere. And now that Tricky Tressel has returned to Akron U. they better keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't break any more NCAA rules.
