Boxing  > General Boxing  > The Legacy of Ali Continues

London 2012. 85,000 in the stadium and a billion on the tellie watched as a seated figure was helped to his feet at the London 2012 opening of the Olympics. His Parkenson's too debilitating now to allow Muhammad Ali to carry the Olympic flag into the stadium, he simply touches the flag, somehow imbuing it and the athletes present and future with a special kind of courage.

Ali imbued a new generation of young people with his brand of courageous fire too. Generation Ali, launched during the games, is yet another Ali initiative for society. You see Ali, unlike many celebrities, has used his status to promote more than himself.

On Facebook the other day, some kind Generation Ali team members asked our little company to help spread the news about a video competition. An event designed to get young people involved in giving, in the same way Ali has given.

It may not be wholly appropriate to do so, but I place this link to a press release from Generation Ali here. The magazine that published so many Ali moments in boxing, seems a fitting place to tell of still more greatness. Greatness long after athletic glory has dimmed.
