NFL  > Chicago Bears  > Regular season starts, Our Predictions for at least the NFC North (Central)
September 3, 2012, 05:56 PM
Everything here depends on injuries. If Matt Stafford, Jay Cutler, and or Aaron Rogers are injured the Vikings might win the division! But injuries aside most people are picking the Packers to repeat in the division and most likely to be the favorites to go to the Super Bowl. I just don't see it. The Packers are so fantastic on offense, but it's defense that wins the championships right. Proof NY Giants at GB last year in the 2nd week of the playoffs.

So if defense is the #1 factor here the Bears should win every year right? After all aren't the Bears the only defensive minded team in the NFC North? Well obviously it's a combination of the two with special teams able to mess the whole thing up occasionally.

So here's eveyone's chance to spout off about their team no matter who or what divison or conference. Say your piece, but be ready to back it up too.

GO BEARS!!! Super Bowl or Bust in the 2012-2013 season.

Pack 12 and 4, Lions 11 and 5, Bears 10 and 6, Vikes 6 and 10

Bears offense is on the upswing, their defense remains a question mark and hasn't greatly improved or come close to their old dominant defenses of the 80s and 90s.

The Bears haven't been that good on defense in a few seasons.

And while you need a defense to win most games, you don't need a dominant defense to win games or championships. Especially if the Packers' offense is as good or better than last year--a buttload of offense can offset a less than stellar D.

I predict the Bears and Lions will be 1-0 and the Packers and Vikings will be 0-1 after week 1.

The thing is the Bears haven't been as good recently as they have in the past but the Bears bad defense is still better than the rest of their division rivals.

In 2011 the Bears ranked 17th in total defense followed by the Vikings at #21, the Lions at 23 and the Packers ranked dead last at 32.

Figuring the Bears improved on offense as most will agree should level the playing field somewhat, trouble is every teams goal is to improve on where they were at the season before and these early predictions are pretty much a crapshoot and nothing more than best guesses enthusiastic fans this early in the season.

I start every season at average and say 8-8 or 50% until the season get's underway and we see clearly who has made the best adjustments free agent and draft wise, injuries also play a key part in the evaluation process as the season rolls on so making predictions this early is pretty much irrelevant IMO.

I believe the Bears, Packers and Lions will be in a three team race for the division title. If Brandon Marshall plays to his ability and Jay Cutler can stay healthy, the sky is the limit.

September 4, 2012  12:16 PM ET

Injuries aside, I feel the Bears will come in first in our division, with the Packers and Lions fighting for second place. Considering the Lions recent upswing in talent if the Packers underestimate them or if their defense takes longer to jell than the Packers are hoping for, the Packers very easily could come in 3rd place in the division! However, I also think ALL THREE teams will MAKE the playoffs and if that happens, then probably the healthiest team in the playoffs will go the furthest.

I just don't think GB or Detroit have the defensive backfield to stop either Brandon Marshall or Alshon Jeffery. I would NOT be suprised if Jeffery is named the NFC offensive rookie of the year. For that matter Shea McClellin could be in the running for the NFC DEFENSIVE rookie of the year! Something that NONE OF the Packers or Lions players, can be considered canidates to recieve.

Many people are saying the Bears D is too old etc. I consider this wishfull thinking by our opponents, since all of these older players made the ProBowl just last year! Plus if our 17th ranked defense of last year is finally given an offense that can stay on the field more, that means the defense will NOT be on the field as much. Which means that our 17th ranked defense will be getting BETTER statistically, just because our offense is getting better!!!! Something else for our opponents to think about. GO BEARS!!!

Oh records wise, I say the Bears will be 11-5, the Packers and Lions will be 10-6 with their head to head tiebreakers determining who actually comes in second place.

The Packers just have too difficult of a schedule for a much better record! And they in my mind, didn't do enough to build up their defense in ONE year! Where as the Lions did almost NOTHING to build up their defensive backfield. The Bears however brought in help to EVERY position. Sure you can dis Chilo Rachel all you want, but he IS an improvment over last year! Sorry Vikings fans, it's going to take you at least another year or two to even break 8-8. But you will enjoy the high draft choices in the future!

Sorry for the omission, this and the earlier post should have been combined, GO BEARS!!!

Packers take the division followed by the Bears. Lions have a nutcase as a coach and the players spent too much time in jail. And the Vikings..meh!

I agree TX. The Packers are still the team to beat in the NFC North. The Bears and Lions will fight it out for second place.

I must be the only Lions fan posting at FN. I'm confident my team can win the division if our secondary shows improvement. We have a great pass rush and the best WR in the NFL. Calvin Johnson will be unstoppable.

Well now wasn't that a delightful game? I think that's the first time that I can remember that the Bears scored 40 points with out the defense scoring at least a TD! Now on to Thursday!

Thursday's game cannot be underestimated in it's importantance to the Bears and the entire NFC north. 1/2 time with the 49'ers leading the Packers at 16-7. If the Packers lose this game it will only make the thursday game more important in every respect to everyone! GO BEARS!!!
