More Sports  > The Bottom 10  > Why have SI had ZERO coverage of the Paralympic Games? This questions your integrity as 'sports' journalists!
September 9, 2012, 06:04 AM
Following what was excellent coverage of the Olympics by SI (with a couple of notable exceptions - next to no recognition for David Rudisha's phenominal 800m world record, the length of time it took for the website to sort out the missing bronze medal stats (lazy) and the childish tantrum of Michael Farber over BBC coverage (pot kettle black)), I was curious how Sports Illustrated would provide news on the Paralympics.

Woeful would be one word to sum it up. No blogs, no headlines, no in-depth analysis and not even a small article. CNN website barely had a news story of the event. Come on people, the second largest sporting event in the world and not one article in Sports Illustrated. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Call yourselves 'sports journalists'? Abysmal and insulting, particularly for US competitors at the Paralympics. News Update for you. As of the penultimate day of competition US have won 30 Golds, 29 Silvers and 37 bronze and are currently in 6th in the medal table.

Many would like to know why SI editors deemed to see this event as unworthy to report. I can assure you there have been countless amazing stories of triumph over adversity, unfulfilled potential and world records broken, with a significant number of US Forces veterans taking part. Surely it is worthy of a couple of articles next to the start of the football season.
