I think the payoff was close to twice that. Savannah State raked in $1,600,000 from its first two games. It's sad that programs have to prostitute themselves like this, but Savannah's AD basically said they had to have the money and there was no other way to raise it.
Hopefully, in 2014 when strength of schedule becomes a more significant ranking factor, some of this crap will stop. Which will be good for CFB fans. But I don't know what under-funded athletic departments do at that point to raise this kind of money.

I think it was 380 for Okie Lite and 480 for FSU....they should have gotten 1.6 tho
Look around the CFB landscape. Everyone is playing 12 games of which 3 are against creampuffs. They should at least have the dignity to call them "pre-season games" like the NFL. 12 game CFB schedule is a facade.

WVU pulled out of the game 3 or 4 months ago. Every other team already had their schedule filled for fall 2012.
They may not have "HAD" to schedule Savannah State, but they didn't have any other alternative.

When WVU pulled out, it was pretty much play a school like Savannah State or leave the date open because there were hardly any other options so close to the start of the season. FSU was in contact with over 70 schools trying to find a replacement.

I only stop by (FN) now and then but if I said the same thing about a certain school I would have been tattooed a new one.

Hey Hammered, you should drop in more often, PSU's handicap thread seems like a perfect fit for you and I really do like reading about all your many experiences you've had while you worked in Vegas.
Anyway, GoFloSemis is a Florida State so I guess you get more slack when you mock your own team. He's a good guy though and has a wicked funny sense of humor.
When Tebow was still with the Gators and with a minor sex scandal at BYU, GoFloSemi tied it together to make the funniest joke ever involving Tebow as one of the punchlines, I can't remember the joke but ever since that joke GoFlo gets two paws up from me!
