NCAAF  > General NCAAF  > Need help picking a good game on October 27th
September 19, 2012, 11:27 AM
My brother and I always go to a game outside of our respective homes, Southern California & Southern Nevada.

We were going to go to Alabama this year but for reasons that are too long to explain we are cancelling that idea and looking for another game. We will probably visit Alabama next season.

We need help picking a different game this year.

If your interested please make a case for your game and your schools city as to why it would be make a good trip. We are very interesting in the local food.

For obvious reasons we will skip Happy Valley this year, sorry Grue/PSU. And yes, I do mean because of who they are hosting, not because of their current nightmare.

ARRRH Thanks, it is Talk like a Pirate Day!

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH.

How about the World's largest cocktail party...

I'm sure Ole Miss vs. Arkansas will command a Game Day appearance.

Excellent suggestion. Good time of year to be in Jax, tailgating is terrific, game should be hard fought.

Ought to be high on Hammered's list. Shiver me timbers, set your sails for North FLA, Hammered!

The Cocktail Party is a good choice, but it's on the east coast of Florida. You didn't mention why the 'bama game is out, but if you can't make it there, the UF/UGA is even furhter east. So, how about the Oklahoma/Notre Dame game. Yo (h)o and a bottle of rum! There will be plenty of Irish whisky there, matey, so bring your own rum.

ND visits OK, if you can stand going to Norman. I've not been, but beef would likely be on the menu and cowboy hats atop heads.

MSU visits Wisconsin in Madison. The weather will be brisk, the brats will be served with mustard, and the band puts on a great show (famous 5th quarter).

The Angry Weasels visit Lincoln to play The Children of the Corn. Expect dry cold, meat 'n' threes, steaks & chops, quirky student grub.

In the ATL, GT hosts BYU. Bobby Dodd Stadium is an intimate place for a game - you can hear the pads poppin' from the top row. Atlanta is a restaurant town. If it can be eaten, it's served somewhere in the metro area.

The afore-mentioned cocktail party is in Jax. It'll be warmer there than any of the above locales. It's on the southern Atlantic coast. Lots of fried seafood & gator tail, bar fare, and some upscale and ethnic eats.

Though I'd love to tout my alma mater (UTK), it's not the year, and they'll be out of town anyway.

ARRGH Matey's thanks for the advice (with exception to the Angry Weasel comment).

Will be discussing (that cocktail party) with my brother tonight.

Remember the today is the only day of the year when you can say "B*l*o^w me down" to your misses and get away with it! figured they edit that.

'Horns will be in Lawrence. In spite of KU's newly acquire3d schematic advantage, I'm hopin' this game will not be a nail biter. Prob'ly a game you can scratch off your list.

............ If it was in Austin, you could at least enjoy the BBQ and Sixth Street. But Lawrence?

September 19, 2012  08:53 PM ET

9/19, Talk Like a Pirate Day, is a kinda cool holiday. But even better is that the Sunday following 9/19, Talk Like a Mute Day, in honor of mothers-in-law everywhere (especially mine).

I've always been somewhat amused about how people like to complain about their in-laws. Like I've always told my wife, I like her in-laws alot more than mine!!

Hammered....made a choice yet? I would lean towards J-ville....I've heard that can be a very good Cocktail Party and would be a very good game as well...

+1.

I have a 300-mile/72-hour rule with my family. Love'em, sure I do, but I can only take them in small doses, therefore the 72-hour rule. And I won't live within 300 miles of any of them.

Hope you have a great time, Hammered! Wear neutral colors so you can flow easily from tailgate to tailgate, soaking up all the beer and grub from both sides. Very efficient.
