Why doesn't anyone ever mention Billy Williams 1972 near miss triple crown season? He led the National League in batting average that year with a .333 average. He finished 3 home runs shy of Johnny Bench for the crown. He also finished 3 RBI 's shy of Bench for the RBI crown too.

Johnny Bench 40 HR 125 RBI

Billy Williams 37 HR 122 RBI

He has come closer to baseball's triple crown than any other player since Carl Yastrzemski in 1967. It seems anyone ever mentions the near misses, they always seem to forget Billy Williams 1972 season.

Billy Williams is pretty forgotten in general.
