Joe Beimel is still available and apparently negotiating a possible deal with Colorado. I'll pose a question similar to what I've been posing all off-season, it seems like........but why wouldn't the Cardinals be interested in this guy? Left-handed relief specialist that has been very effective the last few years in LA. He's a ground ball pitcher who would fit well with Duncan's pitch to contact philosophy. I know DeWitt has been spinning the economic downturn as a reason not to spend, but are they completely done with trying to improve the roster? Beimel, in my opinion, would be a good fit and would be better than any lefty we have in the 'pen. I'm simply not convinced that Miller is healthy and is going to be the answer. With players signing low dollar deals.......he wouldn't cost that much.

Same issue with Eddie Guardado. He signed a minor league deal with Texas this week. He's not someone I was real excited about this off-season, but he'd be an upgrade over what we have, and if he's taking a minor-league deal, it wouldn't have been that hard to get him for a reasonable dollar amount.

Last week I ranted a little bit about Jon Garland signing with Arizona, and I would make the exact same statement about Randy Wolf signing with LA. Low dollar, veteran starter that would give our rotation a much needed boost.

I suppose I should quit expecting any spending and just anticipate going with what we have, but some of these guys could help us without being a very big financial play. I wish I understood the thinking.
