Go Gators!!! Hotty Toddy!!!

October 31, 2012  07:09 AM ET

Hot Toddy? Start with ~1&1/2 ozs of whiskey, add a couple of ozs of boiling water and a teaspoon of honey (gallberry, if you're following my mother's recipe). Add 3 cloves, a cinnamon stick, and a slice of lemon. Let it sit just long enough for the flavors to blend but not so long that it cools to luke warm. Top with a wee pinch of nutmeg and enjoy.

BTW, if you haven't whole cloves or a cinnamon stick, you may use ground spices sparingly. They have a bigger punch ground up.

well i guess we get to see what Bamas offense really has this weekend i cant see the defense having much problems

Let's analyze a few of the upcoming contest. I'll kick it off by suggesting this Thursday night's who-done-it, VT at Miami.

These aren't the Hokies of yesteryear. The 2012 Hokies have yet to win a road game (or lose a home game), coming up short at Pitt (17-35), at Cinci (24-27), at NC (34-48), and at Clemson (17-38). Their victories have been against GT, Austin Peay, Bowling Green, and Duke. Beamer Ball? Their execution on special teams has been nothing special. The starting QB, Logan completes 53.6% of his pass attempts, is averaging 238.8 ypg, and has 10 INTs to 13 TDs. Backups have barely sniffed the turf this season. Rushing, Logan likes to carry the brick in the red zone, having scored 5 TDs. Toting the pig is spread between 5+ backs on any given game. Of the receiving corps, Davis & Fuller have 4 TDs a piece.

Miami should distribute free tickets to refugees and their security escorts. It might put butts in the seats for their home games. The Mutant Ibises have won and lost on the road (Ws at BC & GT, Ls at KSU & ND) and at home (Ws vs Bethune-Cookman & NCSU, Ls vs UNC and FSU). The QB who has seen the most action, Morris is completing 57.6% of his pass attempts, is averaging 276.8 ypg, with 7 INTs and 10 TDs. His few rushing attempts are to escape being turned into turf-butter. He has 1 TD toting the pig. Two backs, James & Johnson get most of the carries. Both are averaging 50+ ypg, and they each have 5 TDs. Of the receiving corps, Scott & Dorsett have 3 TDs a piece.

So we have a pair of seemingly evenly matched middling teams, both 4-4 and set to collide at Sun Life Stadium. On the weakness of VT's road record (Does Miami have a home field advantage? Their record gives no indication of such.), I've picked the Mutant Ibises to win.

What say you?

University of Louisianas' Rice eaters vs the High Flyers

This ain't the same bunch of rice eaters that won the NOLA Bowl last season. The high flyers will bomb them from high, then strafe them down low. (with footballs of course). It shouldn't be too close, but this is an old rival game from former directional Louisiana schools and Southland Conference members. Anything is possible.

OK, jumping ahead to Saturday...

Bama: O-line plays in unison, effective on runs and pass protection; backs and receivers protect the pig, holding it close to their bodies - seldom stripped; McCarron sees the field and plays within his strengths - he may get sacked on occasion, but he doesn't turn the ball over much; D-line brings the pressure; LBs plug the holes, shadow the ball carrier in the backfield, take the angles and make the hits; Dbs stick to the receivers, close as the ball arrives, attempt to disrupt the reception/steal the ball, seldom blow the tackle; special teams cover the field and make good open-field tackles - seldom is a kick returner going to take it to the house on Bama.

To defeat Bama, LSU will have to disrupt their offensive rhythm, and they have the tackles & TEs to do that. On offense, Metzenberger will have to have "a career day," i.e. not frack up as much as he has been; LSU should give Bama a few new looks for which they haven't been able to prepare; LSU needs to score opportunistically as well as with sustained drives; special teams play is crucial to their victory - execution, & field position; "this game" focus - no thoughts for the future.

Bama can be defeated. In Baton Rouge, during prime time, I'm picking LSU to do that (I've fingers crossed and gumbo planned for dinner). Yeah, I know... This LSU team?!?!
Wishing upon a star...
