NFL  > Dallas Cowboys  > Offense is stuck in mud...
November 5, 2012, 08:07 AM
Once again - the red zone blues are our undoing. The Cowboys were not going to beat the Falcons with field goals... and it proved out in the 1st half. The defense played well enough to win this game (Scandrick not withstanding) but the Offense is not holding up their end of the bargain.

The bad news - Jerry seems to be (based on the Costas interview) ready to keep Garrett. So the learning OJT continues.

We are stuck with this, kids... and the stark reality is that with a minimal amount of penalties last night and no turnovers, I am left with the simple conclusion (as I have been stating for weeks now) that THIS TEAM JUST ISN'T THAT GOOD!!!

Oh - and let's put to bed this stupid idea that Jerry will pay Sean Payton to come back to Dallas. There is no way in hell Jerry pays upwards of $8M for a HC. He got Parcells on the cheap because Parcells had gone through a divorce and needed the cash. No such situation with Payton.

It doesn't seem to me and last night was evident that the play calling isn't any good. Whenever this team HAS to make a play they continually fall short. The other teams know exactly what is coming and they make the stop. This team is as predictable as the heat in Texas!!!

November 5, 2012  09:25 AM ET

That no huddle drive where they scored their TD......you'd think they'd go with what WORKS!! And, I heard the announcers say this on some call made by the refs that could have been challenged..........."Carrot's not going to challenge that call", or words to that effect, and he didn't. Whether or not he'd have won is not the point. The fact is Carrot evidently don't like making challenges.

It's a family affair. JJ has a lot of man love for Carrot, for some damn reason.

i totally agree... this team just isn't that good (and i've been saying this for years.) they do have some talent, but it's not at the level of the NFL's upper crust. and garrett does need to be replaced, badly. but i'm thinking if dallas is worse this year (record) than last, JJ does make a HC change.

i can't wait till the nose bleed seats in JJ's palace start looking empty. problem is i'll probaby have to wait a long time if it ever happens.

November 5, 2012  11:25 AM ET

Will J.J. ever learn.

November 5, 2012  11:32 AM ET

had to stop watching the video when it said JJ earned three SB rings being GM (picking players, etc.) thought maybe Jimmy Johnson has a little to do with those star players back then. JJ has had control since and the team has sucked. this video is a few yrs old too.

November 5, 2012  11:47 AM ET

Sad thing is, no matter who the HC is, JJ calls the shots. So, he'll be more like to select a subservant HC, so no one challenges King JJ. It's sad, because eventually those nose bleed seats will start to empty. I remember the days when Texas Stadium was filled to capacity for YEARS straight. JJ just doesn't get it.

Dallas continues to shoot themselves in the foot, and I do believe coaching is a huge part of their problem. Plenty of talent, like the eagles, but not cohesive as a team most days!

Bad head coaching and very poor play calling is what is doing them in.

congrats on the bears G, and congrats to u too JAck on ur Steelers!

I have to agree part of the problem is coaching and play calling, Orlando Scandrick screwed up two big third-down plays in the fourth quarter when the defense was trying to give the offense a final shot at a win.

The Boys are in need of a major shakeup, starting at the top.

The fact is, G, the Cowboys should have never been in that position. Their offense should have had a lead to where defensive mistakes shouldn't have hurt them. They defense had been on the field for a long time, so naturally they will start slowing down and making mistakes, but if the offense had been scoring, a few mistakes like Scandrick's wouldn't have hurt them that much.

The offense has been losing these games, not Scandrick or any of the defense, IMO.

Jerry Jones meddles with the coaching staff and makes it difficult for them to do their job. Unfortunately the Cowboys are stuck with that imbecile.

Any coach JJ hires, knows the situation. Carrot knew what he was getting into, much like his predecessors. That's likely why you'll never see Cowher or someone like him, be the coach there. Only reason Parcells did, was he was getting a divorce and needed the money.

I agree somewhat, you have close games in the NFL every week for one reason or another be it the offense, defense or special teams via dropped balls, Int's, missed tackles, fumbles etc. Garrett shouldn't have called the consecutive running plays he did but it's not the offenses fault, I seen Romo make a gesture to the sideline and the following drive was all all passes if I remember correctly and drove down for a score. All the defense had to do was get a stop and maybe the offense could have moved the ball again and maybe not we will never know.

Is the losses due to lack of points or points given up by the defense? I would blame the team as a whole for the losses but on that last drive by the Falcons the defense needed to step and make and make a stop and give the offense a chance to win it IMO.

Not all the time, no. But, in the case of these Cowboys, they should be at least .500. Carrot is NOT a good coach, if you ask me. At least not yet.

You find something that works, and stay with it until they stop it. That no huddle drive where they scored the TD............how come they didn't try it again and again and again? They waited until the end of the game to do it, and I think just the one time. But, a day late and a dollar short.

I still say IF J.J. was to eat what's left on Garretts contract, Gruden would be the guy, I don't see Cowher or Payton working with J.J. but I can see Gruden working with J.J. as he worked okay with Davis and I don't think Gruden would ask to call the shots and only ask that J.J. consider his input.

If J.J. were to fire Garrett and go with Gruden he may win some of these irate fans back for the time being and depending on how things work out going forward. JMO as I'm not familiar with J.J. other than what I read here on the boards from all you Cowboy fans.

Garrett seems totally lost so whether the successor is Holmgren, Payton or Chuckie, all 3 are an upgrade over what resides on the sideline right now!

I totally agree Garrett is not the answer as the Cowboys coach, I don't think the players respect him enough to play hard for him. His play calling does leave a lot to be desired, basically he get's out coached IMO. I honestly think Dallas has the talent to be a better team than they are showing and they need a coach who will crack down on them and earn the players respect to garner their maximum effort. I see a team in Dallas that the players do not give 110%, they haven't bought in to what Garrett is selling.
