My exact thoughts! Thank you to all Veterens

November 11, 2012  09:44 AM ET

Let's see who is who.

US Navy 1985-1992...I would have retired Navy, but got custody of my then 2 yr. old son, who is now almost 24. (Long story)

Pascagoula, MS, Charleston, SC, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Holy Loch, Scotland-- (U.S.S.Simon Lake AS-33), Pensacola, Fla. (shore duty)
I loved the Navy and wish I could have finished my career, but I had to make a choice. My son or the Navy.

I found some former shipmates of mine in Facebook...a Chief I worked for, and a long lost buddy of mine back in the day. I'd been looking for this buddy for several years.

I'm Air Force '76-'80... I've hooked up with a number of my pals via Facebook. Lost my closest compadre to a heart attack in 2010.

Air Force changed my life in ways I can't begin to count... I would not be where I am or who I am had it not been for those 4 years and those bonds that still remain - and that doesn't even speak to the training I received.

It was my college.

Basic Training - rainbows... because of the colors shining off of our freshly-shorn heads...

Technical Training newbies - Pingers... Because when the wind blew out 1/4" hair, you could hear the soft "pings"...

Air Force personnel at our base when in town - dookies
