This is up early so that we can begin this Bowl season with speculation about pairings and commentary upon these as they are confirmed. Also, Army - Navy is unique and folks are encouraged to post about it here.
OU should play in the Sugar....but a bowl buster could knock them out of the BCS all-together...that would not be right, IMO
One Bowl match-up is set.
Dec. 22 New Orleans: Louisiana-Lafayette (Sun Belt No. 1) vs. East Carolina (C-USA)
LA-Laf are 8 - 4 and atop the Sunbelt. Defeated opponents with winning records include ULM (also 8 - 4) and W.KY (7- 5). Terrence Broadway is their starting QB (65.1% comp, 2526 yrds) and second leading rusher (6.4 ypc, 661 yrds). They have a trio of RBs and a committee of receivers. Their attacked is fairly balanced - 3/5 of their yards through the air.
ECU are 8 - 4, finishing 2nd in CUSA East. Defeated opponents all have losing records. Carden Shane is their starting QB (66.8% comp, 2838 yrds) and Vintavious Cooper is their stud RB (5.4 ypc, 1030 yrds). The Pirates average about 2/3 of their yards through the air. Justin Hardy is their leading receiver (1030 yrds).

No, it wouldn't. It should be UGA - OU. Both teams' fans travel well, and the match-up would bring ratings.

don't think UGAly will jump UF in the rankings. UF played a much tougher schedule and the only reason they were above was the H2H....now that is out of the equation.
Also (since I'm a homer) heard Miss State going to either the Gator or the Compass....local thinking is the Gator since State fans travel better than Vandy (who is the next pick)...and State went to the Compass last year...Wisky going to Gator as well.
After that best-ever SEC CCG, UGA deserves a shot at the Sugar Bowl. Their fans travel and spend as well as the rabble of Jorted Ones.
The "BCS formula" may intrude upon the Bowl committee's invitation? Then, what about VT vs the Angry Weasels?
Well, I'm sure you heard by now that Northern Illinois is in the Orange Bowl, bumping Louisville to the Sugar Bowl. OU loses out on the BCS. But a Georgia - OU Cotton Bowl would be a worthwhile game just the same.

Don't think your comment went unnoticed, he of the creamsicle pants clan.

I don't think the bowls are going to get any better under any system. The flies in the ointment as Tim Brando calls them, are not that fun to watch. Make fun of Bama vs LSU all you want, but I'd be willing to bet people would rather watch a game like that Northern Illinois in a BCS bowl. I'm not saying they can't win, but no one will be watching it....

Do you mean the Wisky that is headed to the Rose Bowl?

Noleys and the Orange Bowl both got shafted for sure.
UF -OU would've been a better Sugar Bowl matchup than UF-Lville (duh, GR), but the media will run with the Charlie Strong-UF connection. Strange bowl picture this year but I think the BCS boys think that having a ND-Gump game for all the marbles will make people overlook the other clunkers, but I'm not buying that garbage.

Agreed. UGaly presented well against Bama and OU is definitely a worthy opponent.

My bad...that was the projection before they beat the hell out of COC....looking like Northwestern vs Miss State in the Gator Bowl....OU and TAMU in the Cotton

It wasn't the BCS guys who picked the teams...it was the system.
For those guys who want a CC only playoff system...this is what your future looks like. Teams like North Illinois in and teams like UF/UGAly/Oregon/OU/TAMU/LUS/tOSU/PSU out....

Yeah, I know. Was mainly just talking about those who still believe the BCS works to any real degree. (blech)
Wasn't picking on you...
FWIW, I did not root for TU to beat KSU last night....rooted for KSU to lose, but am just as happy that TU was demolished. Losing the BCS bowl is a disappointment, but tempered with the realization that we bumped TU down to a lower bowl....all is good.
And I apologize for all my UTx friends on here (and I am saying UTx out of that respect)...having some TU SiL anger left over from our last visit in Dallas a couple of weeks ago...my other SiL was there as well (early Thanksgiving) and he was very surprised....
OK::taking deep breathes::....no, still doesn't help...only time..:)

I don't think the Orange Bowl got shafted. They were a party to the rule that allows non-AQ schools to play, and they signed off on it. Besides, Northern Illinois is entirely worthy. Florida State struggled to beat a 6-6 Georgia Tech yesterday. A win in the Orange Bowl is not guaranteed.
As for the rest of the BCS bowls, I think they're going to rock. The Rose and Fiesta Bowls in particular should be good.

I didn't feel picked on, sir. And an OU fan doesn't have to make ANY apologies for any reference to the Horns whether good or bad, but I respect your respect of them.

I was surprised at the Noles-GT game, but chalked it up to a non-motivated FSU squad, but I could be wrong. But if the Noles can't take apart NIU, I'm gonna laugh my Gator arse off.
