Is it a good thing or a bad thing to make this list or be mentioned in this article? Discuss.

Money makes the world go 'round. And CFB funds so many other less-revenue-capable sports, I can only believe it's a huge positive for any school's athletic department as a whole to have a financially sound and profitable CFB team.

Agree with Grrrrrrr here. The money they make helps the other sports and provides better training sites and playing fields for everyone..

I am reminded of 84's comment about DIII on the I-O board.

I believe the same way unless you are a Duke , or NC, or Kentucky having a profitable football program is the only way to stay up with the elite of schools....

Viewed the article. Another click from that page took me to an article about the top 10 coaches and found they had Gary Patterson 2nd behind Saban. Found that to be surprising because his salary is less than some of the following coaches. The article didn't give much in the way of details as to how they did their rankings but I can only assume that the buyout GP has is very substantial.

I know that TCU has put a lot of money into their overall CFB program over the past 10 years or so in conjunction with winning far more games than they lose but I'm sane enough, at least I think I am, to recognize that my 9,000 student body alma mater will never be one of the big money making schools mentioned here. I will say though that the recognition they have received over the past few years is proof the the investments have been quite beneficial.
