He weighed in at 230....he'll make a good LHW in UFC but I don't see him doing much as a HW...

He almost killed himself making 211 for the Olympics, I wouldn't be shocked if he stays at HW.
Nah, even Dana has mentioned the Cormier-Jones fight. Once Cain won the rematch, Cormier started taking LHW and gunning for Jones. He's 230 now and has a HW fight with Mir in April which I expect him to win and isn't looking to be at 205 until the fall. I think with 9-10 months, a 25 lb cut shouldn't be too bad on him.

he was able to make 184 not all that long ago...

Yes, and since then he had his kidneys shut down trying to make 211.
He will have a better chance against the bigger but slower and less skilled guys at HW than he will at 205. Why is there this crazy thing in MMA where we just assume that if a guy cuts more weight he will do better? Most of the time it doesn't work out.
For instance, is there anyone who thinks that Roger Gracie should be cutting a crazy amount of weight when he is already a slow 205 er to get to 185? He should be fighting guys that are as slow as him, and in functional fighting strength he wouldn't get balled up at HW.
I wonder what Jim (and the other Bones haters) would have said if Jones had said...I am going to beat up Sonnen, then I am going to kick Cormier's a**.

sounds like he didn't do it right....if he does it right, he can drop the weight without a problem. He has no timeline, no deadline to shed the weight...he can take 2 years if he wants...

And he hasn't made 184 since college has he? And he is 33 now. I wouldn't call that "not long ago".
Ok.. put the weight cut aside.... Do you guys think Cormier stands the best chance to dethrone Bones? I see no one else even close.

I think he loses a lot of power by dropping weight, and doesn't gain much of a speed advantage over other LHWs like Jones, Evans, etc...but he's just too small to run over the likes of Cain in the HW division...Cormier is like Cain's mini-me...

QUOTE(#13):
Cormier rag dolls Cain in training. Where would Cain be better? Wrestling? HA!
And Wanderlei used to ragdoll Shogun in training, but if the two ever fought we all know Shogun would win. Pele used to "rag doll" Anderson too.
To the question: Cardio and boxing. Cain would box DC up just like he did to Junior. You can't really think his conditioning is as good as Cain's?
QUOTE(#15):
I've seen Cormier go 5 rounds without gassing at all. I saw Cain gas badly against JDS. Cormier would be outboxing Cain, not the other way around. Cormier has faster and heavier hands than Cain.Funny how you avoided the wrestling department, probably because you know it doesn't help in your argument.
You are comparing fighting a Josh Barnett with a broken hand to fighting Juinior Dos Santos? Really?
I avoided the wrestling department because it is a wash. DC is a more accomplished wrestler, but at that level and with the strength advantage of Cain (who is a solid 240, as opposed to a flabby 230 like your boy DC) the wrestling would be equal.
I've seen nothing in the boxing of DC that leads me to believe he could outstrike Cain. Especially not when he couldn't even put away, and actually got caught a few times by, Jeff Fuckin' Monson.
Your best evidence is some third hand knowledge about him "rag dolling" him in the gym. Cain is the best HW in the world, and nothing that DC did to a one-armed Barnett, Jeff Monson or Dion Staring could ever convince me otherwise. To be the best you at least have to compete with the best, and DC simply hasn't done that yet.

DC better or worse than Cain is a silly argument anyway since BOTH fighters have openly stated that they won't fight each other. Neither one is gonna budge for money like Bones did to Shad so hypothesizing about who would finish who is pointless. The fight that DOES need to be discussed is DC vs. Bones. Jones has changed his mind apparently and is now welcoming the DC fight which means that there could be a new LHW strap holder by Thanksgiving.

This is true.
And why wouldn't Jones welcome a DC fight? That fight is an easy W for him in my opinion. He will be bigger than DC, faster, have a huge reach advantage, and is a vastly better striker. Jones should win that fight easily.

Maybe, maybe not but he was originally cold on the idea. He turned down a coaching spot on TUF that they wanted him and DC to do because DC was " a no name" and wouldn't coach until Chael P. came calling. So now that DC is picking up steam and Dana is talking him up, now Bones wants in. Just another example of how Bones is a businessman, not a fighter; and I refuse to plunk 50 bucks down to watch a businessman (unless DC is ragdolling him like he did Barnett).
I must have missed the Mir/DC fight. How badly did DC beat him up?
