Pitchers and catchers report just ten short days from today. Baseball will be back, and the Cardinal pursuit of Ring #12 will begin. Can't wait, and here are some miscellaneous thoughts:

-- Great to see so many Cardinals listed in the Top 100 MLB prospects list. Oscar Taveras is at #3, headlining the list. Of course, being a can't miss prospect doesn't guarantee major league success, but it is very nice to see, especially given how dry the Cardinal minor league system was 7 or 8 years ago.

-- Ronny Cedeno.....hmmmmmmm. I'm normally not in favor of adding ex-Cubs to the roster, but I started thinking: the last time we added a former Cub shortstop in Ryan Theriot a couple of years back, that turned out okay. Cedeno should be a decent reserve infielder with a good glove, and will provide insurance if Furcal gets hurt. Okay, WHEN Furcal gets hurt.

-- Mark Rzepcynski signed his contract to avoid arbitration. I think the Cards need a big bounce back year from Scrabble.

-- I think second base will be the big question mark during Spring Training. From what I can see, most of the 25 man roster is pretty much determined, with competition for some of the pitching slots. The real unknown is who will play second base every day. I'm really interested to see how the Matt Carpenter possibility plays out.
