In light of of the last 4 contracts handed out to 'Ace' type pitchers, how much does Waino command in such an inflated pitching market? Or more importantly how much can the Cardinals reasonably offer without being perceived to 'lowball' him?

Obviously I don't see the Cardinals offering a 6 or 7 year, or per year values between $24 and $25M like those offered to Hammels, Greinke and Hernandez but do they have to at least go as high as $20M/yr like 5yrs/$100M?

Put on your Monopoly caps and opine on what you think is reasonable in baseball reality.

I think Felix is one of the top 2 pitchers in the game, so I don't think the Cardinals have to go to that length. Money aside, I wouldn't trade Adam for Grienke even up, so I believe Grienke is WAY overpaid on his contract. I think we all know the Cards aren't going to go to those lengths.

Hopefully, they can get a deal done. The Cards have a little payroll flexibility, so I could see them doing a four year deal pushing $20M a year, but I can't see them going much past that.

I've said it before on here, but I'd really like to see Adam in a Card uniform in 2014. I love all the young power arms, but with Carp out of the picture I would like to have Adam's veteran presence to go with all the young guns in 2014 and beyond.

Just realized that Adam will be 32 at the end of this season, so a 5th year on a contract would probably be a club option if offered. With that said I think his rep will probably look at the Cain deal as a benchmark in terms of AAV in the neighborhood of $22M per year.

I really can't see DeWitt going to $22M per year, but I could be wrong. I agree with you that the Cards would cap it at four years with an option year or two, and I agree with that.
