Alex you got your wish. Back when the 49ers were entertaining the idea of signing free agent Peyton Manning, Smith was quoted as saying; " I think it would have been nice if Manning were signed by the 49ers , that would mean we could compete against one another for the starting job".
Alex now you must prove yourself against Manning, Rivers, and Palmer, Good Luck.
If the reports of the details are true, heckuva deal pulled off by the Niners' brass. A second round pick this year and a conditional third round pick next year that could become a second round pick is great. I'd heard speculation that a fourth rounder could be all the Niners should expect in return for Alex Smith. Wonder what the Vikings would take for Percy Harvin...

Yeah KC's second round pick is 33rd.

Narry,
You guys made it too the Super Bowl, and will contend for that for years too come.
QUOTE(#8):
did KC really gain here? I don`t see Smith being much better than Cassel, but Reid is suppose to be a QB coach, so maybe that will make a difference.
They were doing fine with Smith ,just better with Kap it seems. in any case I wish Jims' Chiefs the best this year.

You're right I am happy. I glad that Smith is finally out of here.
I never wanted Smith from day #1, I wanted Aaron Rodgers.
I understood why they had to bring him back in 2011 ( CBA, new coach and all ), but was glad it was for 1 year, figured he'd have a mediocre season and be gone in January.
I was upset that they re-signed Smith in 2012, but hear again I think the 49ers were cornered into re-signing him because of the great 2011 season he had and because he had all of a sudden won the hearts of 49er fans, and it didn't hurt that he was also a great fan of the SF Giants who won the World Series and good friends with many of the Giants players.
The only nice thing about Smiths 3 year contract he signed in 2012 was that it had plenty of escape clauses for the 49ers. When Harbaugh once again declared Smith the starting QB, my only thought was; I hope Smith wins the Super Bowl and the 49ers trade or fire him.
Like I have said before, Smith is a great person and outstanding citizen of the Bay Area, if he were running for Mayor of SF I'd vote for him. Any team having him on their roster is a lucky team, I just do not want him as my starting QB, that is why they drafted Colin Kaepernick.

There were only 3 things KC could have done. 1) Draft a QB in a weak QB draft and hope he stays healthy and capable for a few years while they rebuild their offensive line. 2) Sign Smith and use their 1st round pick on the offensive line .3) Keep Cassel and rebuild the line.
Smith is younger, smarter, and a better QB than Cassel.

Then yer a very happy fan indeed! I know the feeling. and it seems you've gotten everything you've wished for. I hope Jim's team works out though.
QUOTE(#7):
What positions do you want in the draft?
On offense- WR, TE, Center.
Defense- The whole secondary needs overhauling, there will be a void at NT and they must also draft a DE to eventually replace Justin Smith in the next 2 years.
Special teams- unless they sign a free agent kicker they will need to draft one
I think the most pressing need is to get a NT. But to tell you the truth I am one of those people that likes to take the best player available at the positions you need. With 5 picks and maybe 6 picks in the first 3 rounds the 49ers should be able to lock up their urgent team needs.
I think the 49ers should try and sign a free agent FS or CB. I like Buffalos Jarius Byrd
Would I trade for Darrell Revis? Probably not, mainly because of his outrageous salary demands and divisive personality. Only Darrell Revis can determine what is more important, money or a Super Bowl ring? If he gets $15 million per year, more power to him, but it won't be as a 49er, it would more likely be on Miami, Cincinnati, or Cleveland. They are the only teams that can afford him.
Richard Sherman has recently been trash talking Revis. What better way for Revis to shut up Sherman than to join the 49ers? Revis coming to the 49ers would elevate his stardom beyond what it has ever been as a Charger or a Jet.
If the 49ers were to draft a solid NT. Trade for Revis, sign Byrd, Goldson, or maybe Woodson, that alone would almost guarantee the 49ers a Super Bowl.

What player or what position do you think the Bengal's will be looking for with their 1st round pick? I have heard they are looking at ILB and CB.

I don't know if it will make him happy or sad, in any case I think it will give him an excuse to have a drink or two.

On offense? Cincy has what you need there ,But doubt it will happen ,As they want some depth ,In the 3 areas you seem too need. but ya never know, as all of those positions will be competitive and may change and trading might be possible.
So it's going too be interesting when Free Agency starts.as every team needs too upgrade.
Yep and ya got a lot of draft picks ,So i'm sure yer team will look for BPA as well .and those picks may be impact players and starters from day one. we got 4 last year that worked out for the Bengals. And I think Cincy will do the same, according ifn we get our vets signed or not,ifn not? the Bengals will need an OT-TE-RB and QB or BPA.[we seriously need too draft a RB.]
As for Yer defense? We share the same need in the secondary.[providing we get all of our front 4 signed up 1st]
Probably go S-LNBKR-DE Or BPA. as Cincy has 2 picks in the second? they may trade down like last year ,and gain a pick or 2.
My only concern will be with our QB this year[he needs too improve in some areas.],ifn he pans out? who knows?

The one thing Cincinnati has is lots of cap room. I think they are the envy of every NFL team. THe Bengals could really make a statement by signing the right free agents. If they make the right moves I think they will win the AFC North.

They do and understand yer reasoning .let's see how it goes down.
My main concern is the QB.
