NFL  > San Francisco 49ers  > How to stop the 49ers from considering Michael Vick as a possible 49er?
February 17, 2009, 07:10 PM
Well we all know the 49ers have a great and historic past filled with wonderful players who were great both on and off the field for the most part. I have been a 49er fan for 20+ years and have proudly worn my team merchandise for many years during the 90's right after we would lose to the Packers or the Cowboys I would still wear my teams merchandise knowing that I would be teased about the lose. But I took comfort in knowing the great history and leadership behind the team and that they were a "team of class".

I just got done emailing the 49ers expressing my disappointment that they would even consider having Micheal Vick join the team. I have also started a pledge that says if the 49ers do not renounce the consideration of Michael Vick as a possible choice to join the team, if I get 999 other 49ers to sign I (along with them) will no longer purchase game tickets or merchandise as well as stop wearing all of the 49er merchandise we currently own.

http://www.pledgebank.com/No2MVick

I am asking 999 other 49er fans to sign this pledge to let the 49ers organization know how I and a lot of you feel and that if we are forced to we will "vote with our wallets". They can easily fix this issue by simply giving a statement to the media that they will not consider Michael Vick for the team because of his past and they don't feel he would benefit the team in the short or long run or something similar.

Even if you don't want to sign the pledge please email the 49ers at the following email address and let them know that you do not under any circumstances want Micheal Vick on the team.

faninfo@niners.nfl.com

I appreciate anyone's help who assists in getting this done to let the 49ers and maybe even the NFL know how we feel about criminals being in the NFL and setting examples for society and especially the impressionable children.

You're an idiot... get off your high horse. He made a mistake, is serving his time and will return an innocent man.

February 18, 2009  06:00 AM ET

ColdSoul, I totally agree with you. I'm not a 49'ers fan, but I feel the same way about my team (Seahawks) as you feel about yours. I keep seeing news and talent-starved writers trying to imply Vick will end up in Seattle because of his connection to Mora. While I know it wouldn't happen, if it did, I would certainly not buy any more Seattle merchandise or tickets.

That being said, Vick does not deserve to come back to the NFL. Let him go to the CFL, if he can make a team.

February 19, 2009  06:28 PM ET

Kartman_1 is right. You guys are idiots. Vick is in jail right now paying for his crimes. I guess he doesn't have the right to earn a living anymore? If he was a fry cook at Burger King and got busted for the same thing and went to jail, I assume you don't think he would have the right to come back and be a fry cook at McDonalds or Wendy's if they wanted him?

February 19, 2009  07:03 PM ET

First of all, Kartman_1 is not right. He will not return an innocent man. He may have served his time, paid his debt, or whatever - but that doesn't make him innocent of anything.

Secondly, no convicted felons should be able to work anywhere better than a fast-food restaurant. So whether he played in the NFL, served as the Ambassador to Tibet, or flipped burgers - that's exactly where he should end up.

February 22, 2009  10:42 PM ET

And what exactly did this man do to create such hate among you all? did he rape a woman? Kill a man? Kill a child? there is a football player still playing football that KILLED somebody while drunk!! Give us all a break and get off your high horses and let Michael Vick play where he wants. You all have been programed my the liberal media to hate this young man!! Leave him alone! He is a special athlete, he is good for the game of football and that is all it is, a GAME!
Open your cabinet up and tell me how clean it is? Leave the kid alone.

February 23, 2009  06:58 PM ET

So, let me get this straight, once someone makes a mistake, they can no longer enter society a second time. You need to wake up bruh! I believe under Singletary, Micheal Vick can get some much needed guidance in his life. With this guidance he can help other kids learn from their mistakes. Jesus said it best, "He who has not sin, cast the first stone".
MR.Vick can be an asset for this organization and this city. If you don't want him here, then don't renew your tickets and don't buy any merchandise. Quit trying to get others to join your parade of not bringing Vick here to the Bay Area.

Then don't buy any tickets. One lest hater fan to worry about. Who are you to judged whether are not he should play? Have you made a mistake at work before?

Better than a fast food restraunt? That's cold He's doing his time, therefore he should still be allowed to play in the NFL. Ridicolous!

listen buddy ... i speak for all TRUE 49er fans when i say get your head out of your ****. Mike Vick is a man just like you pretend to be. obviously hes made some mistakes and he is rectifing those mistakes as we speak. I say that if Michael Vick can seriously help this current group of guys in San Fran then GO FOR IT BALLS OUT!... as for your petition do me a favor dnt try to corrupt the minds of the best fans in the world. we love our niners and you dont feal like buying tickets and merchandise that its just leaves more seats and gear for the true fans who wouldnt sign your petition if it came with a signing bonus... do us all a favor and just move to green bay and b a packer fan

February 24, 2009  03:02 PM ET

i'm not a 49er fan. I'm a steeler fan and i wouldn't want him on the Steelers just because I think he was overrated as a quarterback. Sure, he's a great athlete but not a very good quarterback. I know it's fun to watch him overthrow a receiver by 30 yards but it doesn't win games. Also, some of you think that torturing helpless isn't that bad then I think you got something wrong with your head too. I would argue that what he did was worse than killing someone drunk driving because the drunk driver didn't go out intent on hurting somebody. It was an accident. You have to be a twisted and/or disturbed individual to not have a problem needlessly torturing any animal.

February 24, 2009  03:03 PM ET

I do hope the 9ers take him though because that will ensure they don't catch the Steelers in Super Bowl trophies at least as long as he's playing.

TXC219 - Please, I want to be nice here and not make you feel bad. But you should really think long before you ever post again. Your argument make you sound like a 5 year old girl. I am not trying to be mean. I am sure you are a heck of a red blooded American. But really really think about what you write. One other thing, siding with a bunch of people who probably don't even watch the game is not a good way to go through life as an NFL fan.

We need VICK!! Shaun, JT & Alex we cant win with them.

What makes me sound like a 5 year old girl? Only 5 year old girls think it's sick to torture animals? Who are you, Son of Sam? Do I sound like a 5 year old girl because I think (along with many others) that he was a vastly overrated QB? Your post doesn't even make sense so I don't even know how to defend against it. I learned a long time ago not to argue with morons because they'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience so I'm sure an argument with you would go absolutely nowhere.

February 25, 2009  08:48 PM ET

haha, you're talking about being a red blooded American and you're already saying we should impeach our leader before he has even had a chance to do anything. Thank God they don't let idiots like you run our country. Oh, crap, they did let an idiot like you run the country for the past 8 years.

February 26, 2009  05:14 PM ET

The jury is still out on Mike Vick: Does he still (if he ever did) have the capacity to control an NFL offense? Will he come back from prison in shape? Is the sun setting on his athletic ability? Will he have a humbled character we are all expecting, or is he not yet to be trusted? All of these questions will be answered in time. Maybe the answer to all is NO.. but maybe, just maybe, with Singletary's guidance, Vick can turn it around. Wouldn't that be a great redemption story.

You are a bright one TXC219. You ever eat meat? You know how cows get slaughtered? What about fishing? You ever fished before? I see that your level of intelligence is right around 55 on the IQ chart. I will confess that I think our new President is a commie. You get anymore liberal than Joe Biden you're a commie. Ok, the truth hurts and I know you and your box of crayons are upset. But just put life a little bit more into perspective and you might actually make a point. Not on this blog but some where down the line when you reach the age of puberty we might have a decent conversation. You ever been to a puppy mill? What about a commercial chicken coup? What about a "PetSmart"? What is cruel to you, torture what is that when it comes to animals? Are you a boy or a girl? Just curious. You sound like a tomboy but one never knows these days do they? You ever rip the wings off of fly's? You're drooling all over yourself right now aren't you. thinking about ripping the wings off of flys....you are a sick puppy! You ever kick your dog? Magnify an ant trail? Shame on you, you sick freak! You should go to jail. Put in a cage with some really big black man that likes ignorant little white boyz. Now run along and go change your panties and don't let me catch you up here writing anything again.

You're kidding right? I don't know if you read my original post, but I said "needlessly torturing animals". Slaughtering cows for food is not needlessly torturing animals. I can tell you're some dumb hick that doesn't know anything besides tractors and inappropriate touching of family members. As I said before, Arguing with you is a waste of time. By the way you talk I can tell you haven't been past the 8th grade.

February 26, 2009  05:56 PM ET

And actually, no, I haven't ever magnified an ant trail or kicked my dog. I guess that makes me weird and you a big tough guy. Uh oh, watch out for Impeach Obama, the local internet tough guy!!! hahaha. Why don't you go spend some more time with you sister/wife/2nd cousin instead of spreading your twisted nonsense on here.

February 26, 2009  06:13 PM ET

Hey Impeach Obama, I'm feeling a little wimpy right now. What do you suggest? Should I beat my wife or my dog? That's what real red blooded Americans do, right?
