Don Mattingly thinks Quentin has a poor understanding of the game.

Hey Don! here is simple explanation my friend, hit me with a pitch and you are probably going to get your **** kicked, that's simple enough, especially when Zack Greinke has pounded Quentin a few times, ACTUALLY THREE TIMES.

Mattingly here is another rule you may or may not know:

IF THE SAME PITCHER HITS THE SAME PLAYER FOR THE THIRD TIME HE GETS A PRIZE:

"AN **** KICKING"

I say that's fair enough.

Enough said.

Not a fan of either team, but if this is a fans understanding, it must be a grade school fan.

That unwritten rule is as old as the sport my friend.....your comment tells us you are probably an occasional fan..no crime in that..lol

He made no effort to get out of the way, Quentin wanted to get hit. Apparently he's good at it.

It doesn't matter if he leans into it, doesn't matter if it's obviously not intentional (which is Mattingly's point)....if you get hit three times by the same pitcher, MLB rules dictate that you MUST charge the mound.

Knowing Mattingly, as one the top players in the majors( New york yankees) and not the kind of player, who is generally outspoken. I have to agree with his stance: (3) times is the charm..kick his butt!!

First - Quentin paused, apparently his initial instinct was just to intimidate Greinke with a stare. Second - and Greinke has admitted this although he won't say what was said, he yelled something at Quentin likely sparking the bum rush of the mound. I think it is safe to say that it was Greinke's words not his pitch that prompted the brawl. Lastly, there are unwritten rules of baseball, but simply getting plunked by a pitcher three times doesn't warrant charging the mound. Retaliation comes in many ways and starts with your teammates, primarily pitchers meting out a little retribution via chin music to one of the players in the opposing teams lineup. Generally, this gets the message across and any bs is averted. It's self policing and it's be going on for years. In rare situations does it escalate, although it doesn't preclude the possibility that it can or will. Likely this is what Mattingly is referring when he says Quentin has a poor understanding of the game. No "**** KICKING" required.

I do believe it was Greinke's mouth that got him in trouble......

Speaking of having a poor understanding of the game, you've clearly never faced anything faster than a 50mph Little League fastball.

First, there really isn't much time to get out of the way of a pitch. Second, getting hit by a 90mph MLB pitch can really ruin your day (week/month/year/career/life), so smart players try to avoid it if at all possible.

Greinke had it coming.. I doubt next time he hits someone he'll run his mouth. Mattingly is a horrible manager, I can't believe LA hasn't fired him yet
