NFL  > San Francisco 49ers  > 2013 DRAFT POSSIBILITIES FOR THE 49ERS
April 22, 2013, 02:58 PM
Draft picks of the 49er: 1st round; #31, 2nd round; #34, #61, 3rd round #74, #93, 4th round; #128, #131( compensatory) , 5th round; #157, 6th round; #173, #180, 7th round; #237, #246( compensatory), #252( compensatory)

Possible teams to trade up to in the 1st round #3 Oakland, #8 Buffalo, #13 NYJ, #18 Dallas. Minnesota #25
What players would the 49ers trade up for? If they traded up with Oakland they could get just about any pick they wanted, in this case I'd say they would take Dee Milliner CB Alabama. Some people have them trading up with Buffalo and giving up their #31 and #34 picks to get Vaccaro, this would be utter insanity. The only players between #8- #13 that would be worth drafting would be Defensive linemen, and the only ones worth taking that high for the needs the 49ers have would be Star Lotulelei, Sheldon Richardson or maybe Damonte Moore. The only reason for trading with Dallas would be if they don't think Jonathan Cyprien will fall to #31. A trade with Minnesota would also be to get a DB- possibly a CB like Taylor or Banks.

Since predicting which teams will take what before the 49ers pick at #31 would be impossible to out guess.

My surprise pick for the 49ers would be drafting Keenan Allen. Not really sure I'd trade up for him but I would take him if he falls to #31, the reason being is that when he came out of High School he was recruited as the #1 Safety in the country. He was recruited by all the big schools including Alabama and Nick Saban. Allen went to Cal following his brother ( QB Zach Maynard ) wishes. When he came to Cal he never got a chance to play Safety because without him playing WR at Coach Tedfords demand, Zach Maynard would have no one to throw to. Since Jim Harbaugh likes players that can play on both sides of the ball, he might start Allen as a FS and occasionally go in on pass plays his rookie season, and then just play it from there.

I could even see the 49ers taking TE Tyler Eifert if he drops to #31

Without any trades this is how I see them drafting
#31- FS Jonathan Cyprien
#34- CB Jonathan Banks
#61- DE Margus Hunt
#74- WR Robert Woods
#93 - C Brian Schwenke
# 128- RB Marcus Lattimore
# 131 - SS Duke Williams
# 157 - OT David Quessenberry
# 173- CB Marc Anthony
#180- WR Ace Sanders
# 257- DT Aaron Tipoti
# 246- OG Matt Summers- Gavin
# 252- DT T.J. Barnes

The 49ers would only move up in the draft as long as it would not cost them to dearly in achieving the rest of the their picks.

Instead of moving up in the 1st round, I see them trying to move up in the 2nd and 3rd rounds to get players. They might trade a couple of 6th rounders for a 3rd round pick. If they get scared and think Margus Hunt would not fall to them then they could trade up a few spots.

At #93 in the draft I am sort of uncertain if the 49ers will take a Center. Matt Maiocco of CSNBAYAREA.COM says that either Daniel Kilgore or Joe Looney will take over for Jonathan Goodwin at Center in 2014. If so they might take an OLB like Chase Thomas from Stanford.

Although I do not have the 49ers taking Tyrann Mathieu. I have had a weird feeling ever since the Combine that the 49ers will draft him.

I know this is not at the top of any teams radar but ...

Jim Harbaugh being an ex-QB from Michigan might take a good look at Denard Robinson just to see if there is something he could do with him and that speed.

I see Chip Kelly and Bill Belichick also interested.

He may not even be drafted but he is a name to watch on Saturday late rounds.

I think everyone has ruled Robinson out as a QB. What might intrigue them most about him is that He can run, catch, throw and play special teams. Not sure how good of a punt returner he is. Although they have plenty of guys that can return kicks they really don't have a true threat to return kicks.

And no QB?

I'd only say that ifn Kap got fubared? How's the Back up? Kap was the backup last year and he did great!

But don't think that will happen again.

He's been great, taking over for yer old QB Smith.[now in KC for all those draft picks.]

And Kap's gotta perform this year, just too prove it wasn't a fluke.

Both Colt McCoy and Scott Tolzien will be fighting it out for the #2 QB position. There is not need to go for a QB.

The 49ers will be to busy trying to bundle some of their picks in order to move up in the draft. I think they will be more active in trading up in rounds 2-4 than making some big move up in round #1. There might only be 2 players that the 49ers would target #1 Dee Milliner, #2 Star Lotulelei. Some people think they should go after Vacarro, I just don't think he is worth trading up to get.

IF the 49ers had kept their cool only made one trade moving back from #34 > #40 they would have had 13 picks in 2013 and 10 picks in 2014 and this is how their draft should have looked in 2013.

#31--- FS----- Eric Reid would have dropped.
#40--- DT-----Tank Carradine
#61--- TE-----Vance McDonald would have dropped.
#74--- WR---- Draft Keenan Allen or Terrance Williams
#93--- C-------Brian Schwenke, or Corey Lemonier ( Do the 49ers know who will replace Center Jonathan Goodwin after the 2013 season? If not they needed to take Schwenke, if not they could take Lemonier.
#128--RB-----Marcus Lattimore
#131--DT-----Jessie Williams or Quinton Dial
#157--OT-----David Quessenberry
#180--SS-----Baccari Rambo
#216--CB-----Jordan Poyer
#237--CB-----Marc Anthony
#246--OLB---Chase Thomas
#252--OG----Matt Summers-Gavin

UDFA- Lawrence Okoye- British Discus record holder and Olympian.

April 29, 2013  03:23 PM ET

Since most 49ers get a double roster spot, the 49ers have listed UDFA Lawrence Okoyo as a FB and as a DT. At 6'6" 305 pounds Okoyo played Rugby. Most FB's are anywhere from 55-65 pounds lighter and about 4" shorter.

What team do you represent?

Most of the teams did very well in the draft. The Bears and Cowboys didn't do that well.

Are you a GB fan? that would explain the discord..

Now the 49ers went and resigned Adam Snyder ( G ). This guy had played for the 49ers for 6 years as a backup, last season he was signed by Arizona as a free agent ( 3 year $15 million ) and he only played 1 year and was let go. This puts a damper on any rookie OL to make the 53 man roster.

The 49ers have 15 draftees from 2012-2013 hanging in limbo right now uncertain of their future in the NFL.

We know that Marcus Lattimore will be on the PUP list and will not see action until 2014. There are a bunch of quality players that will not make the 49er team due to unavailable roster room.

The 2 areas of where there will be the most competition will be WR and DB.
