NFL  > General NFL  > Five reasons it's hard to be a fan of the Cleveland Browns.
May 3, 2013, 08:56 PM
I'm a Steelers fan but saw this on Yahoo and thought it was cute/accurate.

1) Envy. All of their rivals are better than them. The Steelers and Ravens each have won SB's in the last few years and the Bengals are contenders having made the playoffs 3 out of the last 4 years. Cleveland hasn't made the playoffs since 2002.

2) Teases. The franchise keeps teasing the fans. The "Cardiac Kids" of 1980; "The Drive" by John Elway; "The Fumble". The lead the Browns had over the Steelers in the post season of 2002..up 27-3 in the 3rd quarter and they lost. They go 10-6 in 2007 and didn't make the playoffs.

3) False hope. They keep hiring big name people to turn it around but it never happens. Bill Billacheck, Butch Davis (hot from the NCAA), Romeo Crennel, Mike Holmgren...and you can add the sheer mind numbing number of QB's they've had since coming back. 13 in 10 years. Honk if you've played QB for the Browns.

4) They suck. One playoff trip since 1999 and they lost. One winning season since 2003. Seven HC's/GM's since the reboot. Since the 2007 season the Browns are 18-46.

5) 1995. Having your franchise torn from your hands.

The Ravens rocked the Bowl.

I don't believe that Bill Belichick was a big name coach until after his Cleveland tenure.

Ben, beaten up perv, Umm just one word, Ravens~~ Heard of them?

LMAO! You get 'em Sugar!

But look here Shell, and this is my opinion but the Ravens are the TRUE Browns, when Art Modell and company departed for Baltimore the only thing the city of Cleveland got was a new stadium (exactly what Modell wanted to stay put!) and an expansion team that has been performing like an expansion team for what, thirteen years now!?!

I'm sure you're aware of the Browns history but let me shed light on a bit of perspective.

There's no doubt that Art Modell was a much disliked figure in Ohio long before he bolted for Baltimore, and by the way that infamous move had a lot to do with state and local politics.

It was when you and I were five years old that Art Modell scorched his reputation by firing legendary head coach Paul Brown. It was basically a power struggle, these things happen in business all the time but this move was never forgotten much less forgiven by legions of fans.

Fast forward to 1995 and the move to Baltimore and what do we have? What we have is the creation of two new NFL franchises in the Bengals and 'new' but not improved Browns directly attributed to the so called traitorous actions of Art Modell.

Tom Brady is the main reason Bill Belichick became a big name coach. He never did squat until Brady became his QB.

Love ya EZ! Bengals baby! Always go Ohio. Who the hell is this blogger? Cant even spell Kardiac Kids, geeez

Howdy ma'am!

It's rare that ya show up on these NFL threads as most peeps are kinda doement till about training camp starts, and I think Yer Browns are putting those pieces together for thier own run this year,as with Pittsburgh and Baltimore lost some key peeps this year.

And that might make a difference too the Browns and Cincy this year.

I'm hopeful about this as both of them have drafted for need, they're still good enough too beat alot of teams, even with rookies, because of thier owners and coaching.

I see the browns emerging thru adversity, and make them a force too be reckoned with this year, and I don't think any team in our division can't take them as an 'easy win'.this year.

Best of luck too Yers and WAMU's Browns, and i see yer team surprising alot of peeps this year.

Yer right about that,

as ifn Modell hadn't fired Paul Brown? we'd only have 2 teams in the AFCNorth.

So,in a way? he did create the AFCNorth.[wether how anyone feels about him,he set in motion of what we have now.

Thanks EZ. And best of luck to your Bengals in 2013. Hey, how have ya been?

Bro,

Just doing well, and I'm thinking yer Browns may be 'King makers' yet again this year.

So far? Yer team has been getting some good draft picks and also think, in about a year from now,
might go farther in the W & lose department. and will only get better each year.

It's been awhile but i have missed yer posts, other than some over in TnRs,I never got a chance too say 'howdy',as ya know,i'm rooting for yer team.

Just a matter of time and yer Browns will make it too the playoffs again.[we have and got shot down in the 1st WC,hopefuly doing better against Cincy and the others in our div.

We got too play against GB and so on this year, and this year might be a crutial year, for Cleveland too make a statement.

The very best of luck this year.

And have a great evening!
