NFL  > General NFL  > Which team do you think will be the biggest surprise in 2013?
May 8, 2013, 02:20 AM
Well, the draft is over. Rosters are looking more and more complete everyday, although as we all know there is players on the practice squad today and rookies from late rounds that could make astronomical impacts on these teams that we never saw coming. Players that played so well last year could fall off this year and visa versa ... Overall it's so hard to judge what an NFL season will look like. But if you HAD to guess, with the little knowledge we've gained this off season ... Which team will be the biggest surprise, in your opinion, of 2013?

I'm taking the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I would imagine that many fans expect Tampa Bay to compete for one of the more difficult divisions in the league this year. With that said, it wouldn't be all that much of a surprise if they got a Wild Card spot in the NFC. Well, I'm going bolder then that. I'm taking Tampa to win the division with the strength of Josh Freeman's arm. It all really does depend on this kid, he's got a world of potential. If Freeman can come through with a great season and not turn the football over, and the Bucs can play more mentally tough then they did last year and turn those close losses in to wins, the Bucs have a serious shot at winning this division. Exspeaking of the division, I expect them to play really well, including a win in New Orleans that secures their division title. In addition to my prediction, I believe Atlanta and Carolina will turn in losing seasons and New Orleans will finish with a wild card.

Probably just a bunch of mumbo jumbo. The Bucs will probably go 1-15 and I will look like an idiot. (I did have high hopes for them last year too) But oh well. What do you guys think?

Freeman is the NFL's version of Jekyll and Hyde. One game he's going 10-28 for 110 yards and the next he puts up 420 yards and 3 touchdowns.

I agree with you, I think that has a lot to do with his mental toughness and the entire team's overall toughness. He needs to be more consistent, he needs to show more fight to win football games and I think Coach Schiano is a guy that can get that inner fight out of him. I see him making that step this season and leading the Bucs to a division title

The Rams might make some noise this year.

May 10, 2013  11:28 PM ET

Yep, they've done some good things this offseason. In fact I love what they've been doing the past couple years .. Sam Bradford finally has some offensive gadgets to work with. The Rams defense has always been pretty solid, they are a really underrated group. Much like the Bucs though, it all depends on how well Bradford plays with those new weapons around him. He's sort of a mystery. I have faith in him though. The division is just brutal though .. Obviously there's high hopes for Seattle and San Fran, but the Cards did some nice things this offseason too. Probably the best division in football.

Welp,
The Rams had a killer draft, and the only way is,'is up',putting all the parts together is another matter,as the Offense is definately the hardest too gel.

And The Cards [and Carson] might be alot more interesting this year.

Cincy got all the [pops-lights and whistles] for Andy Dalton this draft,so hopefuly the offense can do more damage too other teams they're playing this year.

Instaed of surviving by what our D that keeps Cincy in the game. He's gotta produce, ifn he can?

The Bengals will be in the post season.

And yeah,in the AFCNorth, will definately find out ifn all those vets from Pittsburgh and Baltimore leaving,in that they can get the rookies as impact players.starting in the preseason.

Vontaxe Burfict would have won defensive rookie of the year, but he wasn't playing till well into the season.

What escapes me is why they kept Rey Malathingofmajig, instead of cutting him,as he's a waste of space on the 1st team roster.

He won't last long.as he'll stink up the place and be replaced by the 1st 4 games.

They should have cut bait and went onto training another rookie, that we got in the draft,or move Burfict into the middle.

Cincy got Harrison from the Steelers but we have a different defensive front than what he's used too.[3-4]
and Cincy uses a 4-3. I just hope he can adapt and contribute.

oops, Vontaze.

I think the Bengals have a very good shot at winning the division. That's coming from a Steelers fan. The past three years they've just done such a good job drafting and making moves in the offseason. Once they make that big step and actually win a playoff game ... Boy, they might be scary for a few years to come

May 13, 2013  01:23 AM ET

I also think the Ravens will miss out on the post season. It may just be the Steeler fan in me but I have zero faith in Flacco to put together a good season next year and with the direction the Ravens are going in, they will really need him too. And I don't think Cleveland will be a contender either but really, who knows.
I think the AFC North will come down to Cincy and Pittsburgh. There is a lot of question marks for the Steelers, we will see if the rookie class can make the impact that the team needs. I've looked at their schedule and Cincy's and I think the two Steelers/Bengals games will decide who wins the AFC North. The team who falls short of the division will make the wild card.

At the moment?

They have a great D,just want too find out,how the Offense works out this year and Cincy has the BEARS as thier 1st opponent,That should be a good test for them.

As being used too failure, with being a Bengals fan? I'm not one of those "Super Bowl"! type of fans,

I wanna see it 1st.

yeah.

That would be sweet too see Baltimore get swept this year. As i think they got all crazy on Flacco, giving Him half the Teams Cap,because he won the SB.

Ironicaly? That's gonna bite them on the rear, maybe this year, since they had too let go of thier vets. so i expect them,[and Pittsburgh] too 'roll the dice' on thier rookies, as that's what Cincy did with some of thiers.

And might find out, giving those rooks a chance may turn into some pro bowl players a year or so down the road.

yer probably right about yer team and mine, Ours [on paper] look too have more talent on the roster, but that doesn't convert too wins automaticaly, So i'm skepticle till they get onto the field and "win'.

I feel like people are underestimating the loss of Bruce Arians as the OC. In a lot of ways he helped shape the character of Andrew Luck and that whole team. This team is so young, it'll be interesting to see if they can improve on such an impressive season last year. They played through so much adversity, often times I felt like I was watching a veteran quarterback and a veteran team play. Hopefully that character carries through into this next season and I think it will. It helps that their division isn't the most competitive in the league.
